Norma Barco Obituary
former Grandy resident
Norma Saunders Barco, 89, of Sentara Village, Virginia Beach, Va., died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at Sentara Bayside Hospital. Mrs. Barco, formerly of Grandy, was the daughter of the late Ellie Wilson Saunders and Bessie Owens Saunders and the widow of Ralph Evans Barco. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and the Coinjock Order of Eastern Star # 218. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Barco Hart of Chesapeake, Va., Iris Barco Resnick and husband, Robert, of Chesapeake, Va.; a son, William Randy Barco of Grandy; a sister, Hazel Hawkins of Chespeake, Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was pre-deceased by two sisters, Elsie Merrell and Bertie Ericksen; and three brothers, Ralph Saunders, Mervin Saunders, and Blanton Saunders. A funeral service will be Friday, March 19, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion UMC with the Rev. David Blackman officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the service. Memorial donations may be made to Mt. Zion UMC Building Fund, PO Box 648, Grandy, NC 27939. Twiford's Funeral Home, Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements. You may express condolences to the family by visiting www.twifordfh.com.
