Walter Moore Obituary

Walter "Walt" Louis Moore, Jr.
ELIZABETH CITY - Walter "Walt" Louis Moore, Jr., age 85, died at his home in Elizabeth City, NC on November 12, 2024.
Born on November 3, 1939 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Walter Louis Moore, Sr. and Marie Theresa Zollner Moore, he was the husband of Phyllis Louise Ledford Moore. He lived a life marked by dedication and service to both his family and his country.
Walt honorably served in the U.S. Navy, where he achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer before retiring. His commitment to service extended beyond his naval career. For three years, he volunteered at Albemarle Hospital, offering his time and care to those in need. Walt also actively participated in community activities, supporting his wife, Phyllis, with the Girl Scouts and leading Cub Scouts for three years. He was a devoted high school band parent, always cheering on his children. Walt was a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Walt is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Phyllis; a daughter, Louanna Stuter (Joe) of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Timothy Moore of Chesapeake, VA and Michael Moore (Janel) of Waynesboro, VA; and a sister, Wendy Overby of IL. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debbie Wilson; and two sisters and one brother.
A memorial service to celebrate Walt's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joe Stuter officiating. Military honors will be rendered to celebrate Walt's life and his unwavering service to his country and community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
The family suggests memorial gifts be made in Walt's name to DAV - Disabled American Veterans, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or online at https://www.dav.org/ways-to-give/donate-online-by-mail-or-by-phone/.
