CARDINGTON - Audrey G. Leonard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother age 82 of Cardington passed away September 14, 2025, at Marion General. She was born to the late Charles and Mabel (Moore) Henkel on September 18, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio.
Audrey was a 1961 graduate of South High School. She had worked for State Auto Insurance, McDonald and The Cardinal Markert in Marengo. Audrey was a member and President of the Jenkins-Vaughn American Legion Post 97 Auxiliary and Cardington Community Methodist Church.
Audrey enjoyed building puzzles, doing crafts and traveling. Most of all she loved her family.
Audrey met and married the love of her life David R. Leonard on April 27, 1963. They lived in the Marengo area for 33 years before relocating to Cardington in 2002.
Left to cherish Audrey's memory is her loving husband, David Leonard of Cardington, her son Brian (Pam) Leonard of Candlewood Lake, Ohio, her daughter Laura (Michael) Wharton of Gahana; five grandchildren: Justin (Nickenzie) Leonard, Bailey Moodispaugh, Devin (Viridiana) Leonard, Cassie Leonard, and Jordan Leonard; four great-grandchildren; Xavier, Kiera, Nausicaa and Luna Leonard; as well as Lili Henkel of Austin, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Charles and Mabel, Audrey was preceded in death by her brothers Gene of Groveport, Ohio and Darrel of Dickenson, Texas and her sister Alpheratta Small of Columbus, Ohio.
Friends may call on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Gompf Funeral Home, 440 Center Street in Cardington, with the funeral service directly starting at 1:00 PM with Pastor John Carpenter and Reverand Randy Lowe officiating. Following the service, the burial will take place in the Glendale Union Cemetery. Gompf Funeral Service of Cardington is honored to have been chosen to assist the Leonard family with Audrey's final wishes and condolences may be expressed at www.gompffh.com.
