Craig Rusch Obituary

Dr. Craig Rusch

Dr. Craig Rusch passed away unexpectedly on February 1 during a business trip. Craig was born April 5, 1964 and grew up in Torrance. A former U.S. Marine, Craig had a Ph.D. in psychological anthropology from UCI, an MA at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, and a BA at Vanguard University, where he had been a tenured faculty member. He did ground-breaking research on culturally universal emotional experience. He later applied his skills as an anthropologist to study intergenerational issues in the workplace. Based on a book he recently co-authored (Managing Millenials, published by Wiley), he was developing a successful start-up consulting business to help organizations assess and improve their capabilities at managing a multi-generational workforce. He loved teaching and always connected well with students. Craig mentored countless students into graduate programs and sat on dissertation committees for many of them. His capacity to mentor people extended to his career as a minister. He was a pastor at Hope Chapel Gateway for 15 years, where he touched many lives. Movement was a way of life for Craig. He wrestled all through high school, completed nine marathons and climbed Half Dome half a dozen times. He was constantly active, curious, learning, teaching, relating, in his search for truth. A beloved former husband, father, uncle and brother, Craig will be dearly missed. He is survived by his children, Eric and Candice Rusch. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.

Craig was a friend of mine, and a good man. A shame to be taken mid-life. You'll be remembered.

I was Craig's high school counselor at West HIgh, and I remember him well. He had so much potential. I hope that his potential will continue through the loves of his children and the things they are able to accomplish.

We were all so shocked to hear about the passing of Craig to a better life. He loved to shock people and to make people take a deeper look into whatever the subject matter was so perhaps this was a fitting end as it was both shocking and causes us to reflect on our own lives and their meaning. So hard on his family and friends though. Our prayers are with his family as they process through this difficult time.

I am saddened by the loss of Craig. Growing up and playing soccer together was great and having some classes together showed me what a great person he was. He will be sorely missed.

A valued friend and colleague, Craig will be missed but memories we share from Vanguard University will always bring a smile to my face. Craig, I can only imagine you're stirring up heaven with your eccentric intelligence. I'll see you when the Lord calls me home. Barbi Rouse
