David Hoye Obituary

Hoye, David Leland
1937 - 2007
Respected businessman and beloved father and grandfather, David Leland Hoye died on March 22, 2007, after battles with leukemia and pneumonia. David Hoye had lived in Palos Verdes Estates, California, since 1977, more recently moving to Ventura County, California. David Hoye was born May 26, 1937 in Woburn, Massachusetts. His parents are William and Berenice Hennessy of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He attended Austin Cate High School in New Hampshire and served in the U.S. Air Force. David began his long, distinguished career in banking when he went to work for Bank of Boston in the late 1950s. After meeting Evelyn M. Gilbride in Boston, David relocated to California and married Evelyn in 1965. The couple purhased their first home in Westchester, California, where they raised their three children: Karen, Michael and Steven. They moved to Palos Verdes Estates in 1977. Evelyn Hoye passed away May 24, 1993. David's banking career was extensive and very successful. He maintained executive positions at institutions such as Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, California Federal Bank, and was very well respected as a commercial loan officer, among other successes. He retired at the age of 65, when he moved to Ventura County. A very dignified man who deeply understood the values of tradition and family, David was also extremely enthusiastic about many different sports, coaching his sons Mike and Steve on their various teams for several years. He was also an avid fan of horseracing, and enjoyed collecting stamps and baseball cards. Very friendly with his neighbors and committed to the well-being of the communities he lived in, including Palos Verdes Estates, David also very actively served as president of Palos Verdes Estates Babe Ruth Baseball League during the 1980s. Most of all, perhaps, he will be remembered for his devotion to his three children and three grandchildren. David Hoye is survived by: his parents, William and Berenice Hennessy; his brother George Hoye (of New York City); his children Karen Grandoli (and her husband Fabian), Michael (and his wife Shannon) and Steven; and by his grandchildren Thomas, Emily and Owen Grandoli. David is also survived by his special friend and longtime companion Nancy Haskell. All who knew and loved this very accomplished man will miss him.

I recently purchased a Sony TC-102 reel-to-reel tape machine through an online auction that was owned by David. He clearly labelled the machine, and he treated it very well. It survived all these years in Dave's care, and I'm sure it made many good recordings for him. I never knew him, but I would like to hear some of the recordings he made. If anyone can help me, my email is [email protected] and I live in southern Oregon. The Sony is still working very well, and I've used it to play back recordings my mom made in the 70's at University of Oregon. Rest in peace Dave, I'm taking good care of this machine so you don't need to worry!
