Ernest Anthony Silvas

1952 - 2021

September 25, 1952 - January 10, 2021 It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our beloved Ernie Silvas. Ernie graduated from Fermin Lasuen High School in 1970. He spent 30 years as an ILWU longshoreman Local 13 and retired as an ILWU Local 94 foreman in 2013. Ernie left us the same date of his father Armando's (Champ) passing fifteen years ago. Ernie was the epitome of what it meant to be happy, he found the key to happiness and he never let it go. Whatever Ernie loved, he treasured forever. A true definition of a family man, Ernie's legacy continues through his wife Becky (Aguilera) of 46 years, his sons Anthony, Ernest Jr (Megan) and Joseph, and his pride and joy granddaughter, Scarlett (Papa's Jackpot). He is survived by his mother Toni Silvas, brother Andy (Laura), sisters, Cathy Sanchez, and Christina (Don) Johnson. Ernie loved his in-laws, the Aguilera family. He had a special bond with his father-in-law Frank, who called him Ernie Boy, and his mother-in-law Cecilia whom treated Ernie as one of her own. Ernie also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, beloved godchildren, friends, and three surviving aunts Ofelia Manzo, Carmen Silvas, and Nina Dora Hernandez. His connection to San Pedro, where he resided for many years, found Ernie playing football with the Persuasions at Peck Park where he would later devote many years as a dedicated baseball (Peck Park Trojans) and men's softball coach. Ernie had a unique loud laugh, funny humor, and passion for life which he shared with all. If Ernie greeted you with a nick name, you knew you had a special place in his heart. In 2003, his sister Christina, whom he called his Angel, gifted him with a kidney. His health battles created a "FIGHT ON" spirit that originated from his love for the USC Trojans. Ernie retired in Las Vegas, his second home, where he enjoyed BBQing and rocking out to music. Internment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
