Janine Maria Gostel

Dec 14, 1956 - Jan 29, 2021 Janine Maria Gostel was born in Canada on December 14, 1956 where she lived with her parents Verna Melough and Charles Melough. Janine was the younger of her two siblings. The family moved to California after a few years, where she would attend North Torrance High School. Following high school, she attended Loyola Marymount University to become an occupational therapist. She married Ronald Gostel and had two sons, Jason and Kevin Gostel, who were the first generation of their family to be born in the United States. Over the years, Janine worked at many different rehabilitation centers in the South Bay, helping people regain their strength and caring for elderly patients. Janine was proud of her career and strived for better treatment of patients to improve their quality of life. Along the way, she befriended many co-workers who would become like family to her. Janine was very proud to be the daughter of a WWII veteran, who fought on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. She worked as an occupational therapist for over 20 years until she retired in 2017, when she was diagnosed with cancer. She remained strong and fought her battle against cancer for many years with the love and support of her family and friends by her side. She was a kind, loving person and a wonderful mother. Many of her family members in Canada and Ireland were a part of so many cherished memories which she enjoyed sharing with her children and friends. It is these memories that carry on her loving spirit as she will always be missed but never forgotten. May she be reunited with her parents, brother, and other relatives in heaven and may they watch over her family to help guide them as they try to live without her. A donation to on-going cancer research will be carried out in her name in the hopes that one day cancer will not be able to take away the ones we love anymore. Rest in Peace
