Although they moved from Los Angeles many years ago, and I've seen them rarely since then, I feel the loss of John's humor.
John and Joy have been positive contributors to the freethought community for many years, and their presence at meetings is missed.

Joy and Family:
I will miss John, a person of strong convictions and opinions. Mostly I will miss the fellow Pilot who I never got to fly with. Love to you all in your time of mourning.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Joy. John was such a gentle, sweet man with a keen intellect and I have already been missing you both as I care for Tony. Now I will be thinking of you and of your deep love for each other in the days ahead. Peace.

My sympathies go out to your family. I am the Los Osos cousin of Truman Stickney, who died last December. Truman often spoke very fondly of his friendship with John. They shared much in common.

Our Deepest sympathy goes out to the family and friends. Please take comfort in our heavenly father who is our Rock & Stronghold in this time of grief. He is our shield and the God of refuge. Psalms 18:2

Have known John & Joy for the past 20 yrs. He was always smiling. I admired his devotion to Joy family. He enjoyed philosophical discussions, flying & riding his bicycle. I will miss his front row presence in church each Sunday. Peace be with you, John.

To Joy and Family ~ I will miss his bright blue eyes, and seeing him in his customary seat in the front left pew on Sundays, next to you, his beloved wife. As you said last Sunday Joy: He was a very good man. Indeed he was. May you feel his presence in your hearts.

My parents' friendship with John and Joy goes way back to their college days in Chicago. My father was a roommate of John's at U of C. My mother and Joy were close friends. It was quite a surprise when my father Harry and mother Paula discovered that they were living near to me in SLO County.
As a result, there were a number of get-togethers when my parents came into town and I got to meet the Gaults. John and Joy are sweet, gentle people with strong moral values and principles. John had a great sense of humor, and he laughed with people, not at people. I heard stories about his bike rides from Los Osos into SLO and his airplane. He was an amazing guy.
