Luke Benton Obituary

Luke "Ringo" Andrew Benton was tragically taken from this world while hiking Pine Creek Falls on July 22, 2011. He died the way he lived - barefoot, fearless and performing.

He was born Aug. 12, 1994, in Salisbury, Md., to Pam and Mark Benton. He moved to Bozeman in 2002 and quickly engaged in his life here. He would have been a senior at Bozeman High School this fall. He was a percussionist in the BHS symphony band and a member of Bozeman United Methodist Church. He was a gymnast, skier and musician, but most of all he was always eager to live life to the fullest. His passion was gymnastics at Lone Mountain. Besides being a member of their competitive team, he shared his love of the sport by teaching younger gymnasts. He was just in Florida for vacation and, when boredom struck in a traffic jam, he back-flipped across the highway between the stuck cars.

He is survived by his parents, Pam Benton and Mark Benton of Bozeman; brother, Stephen Benton of Bozeman; maternal grandparents, Phil and Sue Stephenson of Salisbury, Md.; paternal grandmother, Pat Benton of Westminster, Md.; aunt, Kim (Jeff) Harris of New Windsor, Md.; and nieces, Megan and Kaylee Harris of New Windsor, Md. He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Ed Benton. He also leaves behind close friends, Cody, Cole, Josh, and many, many more.

His life touched so many others. We were blessed to have him, though not long enough. He was a dynamic friend to everyone he met, and he went out of his way to meet many. He was a tremendous guy - witty, charming, bright, vibrant and energetic. He has left us waiting, wanting to know what he would have done with that boundless energy. He will always be loved and live in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Bozeman United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lone Mountain Gymnastics and Swim School (phone 587-1180) for a scholarship fund in memory of Luke.

I am truly sorry Luke's family for this loss. I am from Malaysia, during 7th grade in 2007, I still remember Luke is one of student in CJMS who guided me through the school because I was too shy and not really good in English. He was so kind and always have good heart. Now in 2018 I still remember his full name. When I google "Luke Benton Bozeman" I was so shock and sad that he already passed away. May God bless his family.

Our hearts go out to the Benton family. My daughter played alongside Luke during band from CJMS through BHS. She said he was the best percussionist she knew and a very nice person to know. May God we with you. --the Johnson family

What a wonderful write-up on Luke, I can just picture his huge smile while back flipping on the highway! I am aching for you half way across the world; praying and thinking about each of you every day. It doesn't make sense to us why those so young are taken way too soon, but we do know he has made a far greater and lasting imprint then most could ever dream of on the lives of those who were blessed to have known him. Luke is paving the way for us and will have trumpets ready and acrobats flipping when it is our turn to join him in Heaven.

Pam, Mark, and Stephen,
I remember Luke as a young baby and toddler. His energy level was as phenomenal then as it appears to have been in his teen years. We are praying for you as you grieve your loss. May God comfort you in His miraculous ways. Love, Pam Cradduck and Family

Mark Benton, family & friends,

Our broken hearts pour out to you. Your beautiful son gone but not forgotten. He passed his spirit, his zest for life on to many others. Seems like only yesterday he was the little boy who hitched rides from the bus stop, up the long road to our homes on the running boards of our truck.

Pam & Mark - We would do anything if we could heal your pain. Your family is in our prayers that God will comfort you. Even though it was awhile ago, we will always remember Luke as that little boy that went with us to Delmar Pizza and the one who won the goldfish at the Fair here when you visited on the 4th of July that one year... He was a very special person. You have all our love. In sympathy,

I remember my first day at Bridger, riding the lift with Luke. I asked him if his friends and he skied up there alot and he said 'No, they aren't expert skiers like me'. He was so very young at the time. He was a great snow ball fighter, I keep seeing images of the great snowball fight we had at Big Sky one day, with Grape and Pocahantas. The last memory I have was from this year's pond skim at Big Sky. Luke doing back flips in the parking lot off a snow bank. As usual, he challenging me to try, no way! I got him once though, I rode the tram first. He did it the same day though, and I was 34 years his senior, but I got him that day, and he challenged me at everything and beat me always. No getting over on Luke. Heaven make room, Luke is coming to show you all how it is done.

Luke, you lived your life with more enthusiasm and energy than words can describe. Although, it was cut way too short and you will be greatly missed by those that loved you, we can be grateful that you were doing what you loved most that day, enjoying your life and the beautiful sights God has blessed us with.

Mark, Pam, & Stephen, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families during this tragic time.

With my deepest sympathy,
Lori Walker
