Matthew Varon Obituary

Matthew Stuart Varon, beloved son of Russell Varon of Manhattan Beach, Debbie Varon of Redondo Beach, and brother to Morgan Varon of Boulder, Colorado gently passed away the morning of January 6th. A graduate of Peninsula High School, Matthew grew up in Palos Verdes surfing, skating, snowboarding, playing lacrosse, hockey and living each day to the fullest. As a bright and ambitious young man, Matthew attended the Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. An accomplished student, he was on the Dean's list and was scheduled to graduate in 2010. Along with his academic success, Matthew was an esteemed member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and enjoyed the bonds of friendship he formed there. Matthew held a special place in the lives of many people; his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and many friends. Services were held on Sunday, January 10th at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the Matthew Varon Memorial Fund at Bay Cities National Bank c/o: Barbara Giglia, 395 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 90274 (310) 541-4518. Dear Varon family,

Even though we have not formally met, our sons (Matt & Cos) were fraternity brothers at Delta Sigma Phi. I will forever remember the phone call we received from him informing us of the passing of your son, he told us that Matt was kind, intellegent, athletic and a true leader. He also said "Matt will forever live on in the hearts of the brothers at Delta Sigma Phi! Our heart felt condolences go out to the entire Varon family. Mark & Mel Cardenas (ASU parents)

I was so involved in their lives, I am so proud of that, I would see them so often, I was fortuante to be able to be so close to my grandson Aaron and his sisters. I pray for you and your daughter that Matt's memory will always stay with you in a loveing and thoughful way. His memorial service was wonderful. I am so glad that we could come. To the family of Matthew: You don't know me, but I just wanted to send my condolences to you. I also lost a young son so I know how tragic it is to lose a precious child. It's been a year now - and in the beginning, I didn't think I could go on. Maybe you're feeling the same way. I just wanted to say that in time, it does get better. You never "get over" the loss of your child - but you do find ways to cope. Peace be with you.*
