Mercedes Reese Obituary

Mercedes Reese
We are sad to announce the passing of our mother, Mercedes "Merc" Reese. Mercedes was born July 28, 1918 in Havana, Cuba and died peacefully in her sleep on January 14, 2014 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Mercedes was preceded in death by son Robert L. Reese in 1966, mother Lucia "Lucy" Hughes in 1981, husband of 66 years John B. Reese in 2005 and sister Mary Crum in 2013. Survivors are sons John (Dee Dee) Reese, Ronald (Ginny) Reese, 2 nephews, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A San Pedro resident for nearly 80 years and a San Pedro High graduate, Mercedes worked in her family's cafe "The Barcelona Café" and as a beautician prior to the birth of her first child. She then dedicated her life to raising her family. Her passions included gardening, fishing, clam digging, cooking and baking. In her later years Mercedes became an avid Lakers fan. Such a supportive, generous, and loving person Mercedes thought the world of her family. She will be dearly missed by all. A private family service is to be held.

Merce, Toby Sarich Peterson, Laura Koehler, and I, along with 2 or 3 others who's names my 101 year old brain does not remember right now, had a wonderful friendship and a regular meeting of our cake and coffee group. I most remember Merce's lovely smile and sweet voice. Those were good times with great ladies.
