Naida Pavlakovich was born on December 21, 1924 on a little Croatian village of Luka, Dugi Otok. She immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island at the age of 12 with her beloved father, Nikola Bacica, her mother, Ivanica Marcina Bacica, and her brothers, Valentine and Ross Bacica. She eventually settled in San Pedro, CA and married the love of her life, Vladimir Pavlakovich on January 5, 1947. They were married for 61 years. Naida enjoyed her little vegetable garden, knitting afghans, playing bingo and eating her nightly bowl of ice cream. But above all, she enjoyed being a mother to Walter Pavlakovich (Virginia) and Christine Nieto (Francisco); "nana" to Christopher and Nicholas Pavlakovich, Jennifer Dietrich, Nicolle Dunn and Marisa Dahlgren (Des). Naida was a great grandmother to 4 granddaughters, Emma and Isabelle Dunn, and Sophia and Paige Dahlgren, as well as 2 great grandsons, Max and Diesel Dunn. She was a dedicated member of the San Pedro Croatian Community at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the Croatian Women's Catholic Guild, Hi Neighbor Senior Club of Lomita, and an auxiliary member of St. Vincent de Paul. On Sunday, May 20, 2018, Naida took flight to her final destination with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Services shall be held as follows: Visitation at McNerney's Mortuary on Wednesday, May 23rd, from 2 – 5 pm, followed by a rosary at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 7:30. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, May 24th at 12:00 pm at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church with burial to follow at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Masses can be offered or a memorial contribution made to St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Spirit Conference, 37588 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA. 94555.
