Scott Switzer Obituary

Switzer, Scott
A native of the South Bay born in 1951, Scott passed away in his sleep on the morning of Friday, January 4, 2007 in Sedona, Arizona. For decades, beginning in 1960, Scott was an avid and accomplished surfer. In the early years, before surfing competition became commercialized, he surfed with Greg Noll's longboard team. After graduating in 1968 from Aviation High School in Redondo Beach, Scott, a dedicated waterman, followed the surf from the South Bay through Mexico and the Hawaiian Islands, including Kauai, where he lived for morethan 10 years. He put away his surfboards for good when he moved his family to Sedona in 1996. Scott was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Switzer in 1999. Scott is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sons, Sean, Wyatt and Wesley; his father, Bill Switzer, past mayor of Manhattan Beach; his brother, Steve (Dawn); his sister, Shelly (Mike) and his nieces and nephews. In accordance with Scott's wishes, his remains will be given to the sea that was so much a part of his life. His ashes will be spread on the water just off the Manhattan Beach pier during a memorial service with friends and family in the summer of 2007. Scott had one of the greatest laughs and biggest smiles at the beach. A few of us knew him by his nickname of the "Minnesota Midget", a name he gave himself. Not sure I know why. Not sure if I ever knew why. Rest in Peace, Scottie.

I'm sad to hear Scott is gone, a south bay local I meet just in time to enjoy him as a co-victor over the ravages of the 70's... He was and will be remember by me and others I'm sure as a waterman, a kind heart and a hard working man. May God comfort those who loved him and enjoyed him most recently!

Hey Scott....

We didn't know each other beyond a casual nod at school or in the water, you were one year older than me. You were a heck of a funny guy with high energy and I can remember us both back at Center St. School like it was yesterday. We lived on different islands in Hawaii so we never saw each other there but you're returning to our home, the sea..... and we'll meet there again one day..... I love you buddy.....
