Talmage Turner Obituary

Turner, Talmage William
Was born April 4, 1983 in Torrance, California. He entered into God's Presence Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007. He was named after Elder James E. Talmage and his paternal great grandfather, William James Turner. He honored all his names. Even though Talmage suffered from two separate, incurable illnesses, he enjoyed a pleasant childhood filled with adventure. High school was an ideal mixture of mirth and academic achievement. Tally was a loyal, active member of the LDS Church. He was an Eagle Scout and had served as president of each priesthood youth quorums in the Palos Verdes California Stake. Before his eligible age for a mission, Talmage decided to have his spine straightened and was rendered paralyzed after surgery. He bravely fought to walk again and succeeded. Talmage faced the shadow of death almost daily during the past five years. He endured, rarely complaining and never losing faith. Being accepted to BYU was a dream come true. He loved his classes and classmates. Talmage particularly enjoyed discussing history, politics, and social issues. He was gifted at pottery making. He loved literature and poetry. He was the bomb at games. His humor is legendary. Foremost in his life were his religious convictions, his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He taught us all patience, courage and determination in long-suffering. Talmage is survived by his parents, Randall and Lynda Turner; 3 sisters, Randalyn Watson (Dale), Shannon Putnam (Jeff), Carolina Moura (Marcos); and 3 brothers, Jared Turner (Julie), Adam Turner (Heidi), Jordan Turner (Meg); and his nieces, Taylor Watson, Anna and Jane Putnam; and his nephews, Max Putnam, Sean Watson, Jonah, Noah and William Turner. The family wishes to express great gratitude to his army of physicians, and to all who enriched his last weeks in the BYU 221 Ward 5th Stake. We are indebted to the Lindon 12th Ward for so generously assisting us to make this event a celebration of Talmage's life. The viewing will be Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 9:30am and the Memorial Service will follow at 11:00am at the Lindon Stake Center, 731 E. Center Street, Lindon, UT 84042. Mr and Mrs Turner I am hoping you remember me. I was Talmages Kindergarten teacher. I live in Ohio and was driving through Tallmadge Ohio . The name reminded me of your sweet son. I googled his name just to see if anything would pop up. I was so saddened to read of his passing at such a young age. Please accept my deepest sympathy. I have such fond memories of him and your family. I remember the lovely dinner you invited my husband and I to at your home. Much has changed since then, i have seven kids.
I returned to teaching 9 years ago and love it more than ever.

I just learned of Tally's passing today. I remember watching movies and hanging out with Tally a bit in high school. He always had a funny joke to tell to make you laugh. He was a loyal friend and so fun to be around. He will be missed.

Dear Turner Family,
Mark And I were saddened to hear of the loss of your wonderful son Talmage. We know he is in a better place, but we know the sorrow of losing a child as we felt the loss of our 1st granchild, Markus has never been the same since then. We know that with the knowledge of the gospel that we will see them again and the thought of him serving a mission in heaven with his cousin sounds good to us. We know that your strong family will be together someday. We miss all of you here in the PV Stake, it has not been the same since all of you moved away. We are just thankful for the time we had you here with us. Sincere sympathy and much love, Mark & Judy Jessop

Turner Family, I am saddened to hear of Talmage's passing. I can't hold back tears now as I write this and think about that little boy I knew many years ago. His voice, his kindness, the depth of his innocence. I felt the Spirit when I was near him. Though just a young boy, he helped me develop my testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, which testimony now runs very deep. I am sincerely sorry for his passing, but I know that families can be together forever. I know that Talmage is with his Heavenly Parents now and that one day you will be with him again.

Turner Family,

Talmage's funeral service was amazing. The Spirit was so strong. I feel privileged to have been a part of it. It's an honor to have known Talmage and your family. He was a strong, confident, and unique young man and I enjoyed the time I got to spend with him. Even if he always destroyed me at Halo and scared me something fierce when he'd give me rides home from Institute. I love you guys.

Sincerely,
Jordan's Friend

Dear Brother and Sister Turner
I would just like to express my condolences. Talmage and I became really good friends in farsi and we would go out to eat often. I have many, many fond memories of him. At the funeral I wasn't very talkative I am sorry. His passing was very difficult for me and I can't even imagine how hard it is for you. You are truly in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being such amazing parents. and thank you for allowing him to stay in Utah despite his sickness. I am very grateful for the time I was allowed with him and he really has touched my life forever. He was always full of life and never ceased to make me laugh. I know that he is serving a mission in heaven and he is reaching certain people that no one else could. I also know that he is going to find the most beautiful and amazing wife up there. Thank you again for allowing him to meet me.

Dear Lynda, Randall and Family,

Talmage was one of the first new people I met upon High School starting, and I still remember the hilarious speech he gave during the Freshman Class Elections. I quickly became good friends with him. Although we lost touch later in school, Tally was one of, if not the only person I wish I had stayed in contact with. I've never met a person more willing to give up part of himself for his friends, or a person who had Tally's puffy red cheeks. Haha. He's a great person, and though I'm sad about his sudden passing, it'll always makes me smile thinking about all the smiles he put on my face. Rest Easy.

Dear Turner Family:
Our hearts and prayers go out to you at this most difficult time. I know our belief in the afterlife and that "families can be together forever" is of great comfort to you, but it is still not easy to lose a son and brother at any time, especially one who is so young. Talmage had faith in the truths of the gospel, but he is now free to move around as he pleases and I'm sure doing a great work in the world of spirits. He is most likely one of "...the chosen messengers [going] forth to declare the acceptable day of the Lord and proclaim[ing] liberty to the captives who [are] bound, even unto all who would repent of their sins and receive the gospel." (D&C 138:31) Talmage is serving his mission, but not in the usual place that we expect. We will all miss him and remember his love for his family forever. He was a great man of courage. We love the Turner family.

Dear Turners,

We want to send our love and prayers to all of Tally's family. Brian and I both remember Tally's wonderful spirit and personality while growing up in the PV Stake with his older brothers and sisters. He was always just part of the group, even though he was usually the youngest one there. He always fit right in and made us laugh so much! He will be missed and remembered- what a wonderful opportunity we had to know him as a friend. We love your family dearly and wish you the best during this difficult time. Love,

I was in the dental office the day Linda came by to say she was in labor and was on her way to the hospital. I also learned of Talmage's health problems but also what a wonderful young man he was. Even though his health was fragile, it is always an unexpected loss. Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Lynda, Randy and Turner family,
I am sorry that I never met Talmage. I know he must have been very special. It was always evident of the love you have for him, Lynda, as you spoke of him in some of your lessons in Relief Society. Your faith and love for the Gospel is an example to our family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of your son in this life, but know of the sweet reunion you will have with him in the next.
Much love,

Tally was my best friend in 3rd grade. We stayed good friends for a quite a few years. Though we grew apart in high school, we were always friends. When we would see eachother, we would always stop to talk. Tally was always so loving and so genuine. When my father passed away in 1998 Tally was always there for me.

This news is quite a shock for me. My sympathy goes out to the Turner family. I will always remember the good times Tally and I had when we were younger and how supportive, generous and friendly Tally always was.

Tally sounds like a young man of spirit and joy, much like this wonderful parents when they were on the BYU campus. He helped you realize your dream of raising a family with the highest standards. The years move on, we age and watch good souls move ahead of us as we continue here on earth trying to help others as you have always done. May the Lord help you through this experience--the loss of a child. We send condolences to your family and love to Randy and Lynda during these days of sorrow.

Turner Family-
Your Family has been and still is such a part of my cousins (The Finnigan's) I spent many summers in PV and spent so much time with your Family. Tally was a great kid and one who helped all around him to enjoy life and see the fun thigs there were around. We all loved him and will miss him. Even if we knew of his health issues, it is still a shock to know he is gone. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank goodness for Eternal Families. We love you all.

I knew Talmage from our Farsi language class. From the first day I met him until just before he passed he made me smile.
We often chatted in class a bit and got to know each other. I felt his strong spirit and huge heart everytime. He was so fun to be around, and never complained. He told me once about how he defended someone who was being beaten up, and he felt embarrassed about it. I told him it showed me he has great compassion and has a good heart! He just smiled. What a great great guy! My heart broke and I was totally shocked at his death. I'm so sorry for your loss.
I must say though that the day after I learned of his passing, I cried, and felt him almost as if he were saying, I'm alright, and smiling, like don't worry about it, it's all great now. Just wanted you to know.
I loved your son, and am so very grateful to have had him as a friend for all this time in our Persian class. God be with you. You can be proud of such a wonderful son. I'll never forget him!

Tally was a very special part of our Rancho Vista experience. He always had a warm smile on his face and enjoyed every day of life. He gave so much of himself to everything he did! We feel honored to have known Tally and watch him develop into such a fine young man. We also kept "in touch" with his life through the Wood family. Tally was an outstanding role model for many young people! He lived a lifetime in his 23+ years! We are most sorry for your loss.

I was in BYU 221st ward with Talmage for fall semester of 2006. Talmage was always so sweet and funny, and tried to make everyone feel comfortable and accepted. I loved talking to him, he would always try and advise me about what to do in my "love life"! Everybody knew who Talmage was... he truly was a friend to everyone. I remember Talmage sharing his testimony of the gospel to our ward and I remember being so impressed by his sweet special spirit. He will be missed. My prayers are with you, his family, at this time.

It is a comfort to know that Talmage is with his Father in Heaven now. I pray that family and friends all have the peace and comfort of knowing that families are eternal and that Talmage did not leave this world without touching and inspiring all he came in contact with.

Dear Randy, Lynda and family,

I remember Tally fondly as a wonderful young man who enjoyed life to the fullest despite the challenges he faced on a daily basis. I was fortunate to to have been his Scoutmaster and watch him attain the rank of Eagle Scout in Troop 134 in California. He always had a smile on his face and was a wonderful example to me of courage and determination. He will definitely be missed. Our family sends our love and support to you and your family during this difficult time.

May this Easter season's message of the glorious resurrection serve as a comfort for you and your family at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Turner Family,

I am a BYU student and I have known your son since Fall semester 2006. He was a student in the Farsi/Persian class and I was his TA.
Even though, I noticed that his health went down in the past weeks, I was very surprised when our Professor announced his death last week.
It is interesting to read in the article that Talmage “honored all his names” because in our class, he had a Persian name of which he was also very proud. This name was Touraj who was the name a great Persian King in the early Persian history. He was always keen to remind us that he had the name of a king.
He was well integrated among his classmates and always brought good humor in the class. He never complained of his physical disabilities and was always ready to serve anyone.
I will always remember him as a great example of faith and that one can bear a positive and joyful spirit even during great period of trials. Our family’s prayers go to you in this difficult moments as for him we know that everything is well.
May the Lord bless you.

Dear Randy, Lynda and family:

We were so shocked and saddened to open our newspaper today and learn of Tally's passing. I always remember that you once told me Tally would probably never grow up to be old but I never thought God would take him so soon. Our whole family will never forget the good times that he and Joey had while growing up. Tally was always special and such a great child. Whenever I drive down PV Drive North past your house, I think about your family and wish you had never moved. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this terribly difficult time.

Though I did not know Talmadge very well, I remember him as a happy and enthusiastic young man, and saw him often hanging out with his many friends. I remember being a part of his Eagle Scout project, and I was impressed with his organization and how he was friendly to me, even though I was just a little kid. I have heard people speak only highly of him. My prayers are with his family.

My prayers for my the Turner family. I had the pleasure of knowing Tally through my callings in the Church. He always said hi to me when we saw each other. He worked hard to just be there with the other youths. He was a pleasure to talk to. He represented the Turner families love for others by being a good example for us all. I will miss him.
