Carl Eastburn Obituary

Carl B Eastburn, (Carroll Bailey Eastburn Jr,) 74, b. in St. Albans, Vermont to Carroll B. Eastburn Sr. and Charlotte Soule, passed at his residence in Loveland Sept 27, 2012, age 74. Carl moved with his mother, a school teacher, from Los Angeles to Boulder in the late 50's eventually becoming the area’s “To-Go-To Quintessential Bartender”. He got his start at The Sink in the early to mid-60’s, moving on the The Hummer Club (now Rocky Flats Lounge) in the late 60’s to early 70’s, and finally to the Pioneer Inn (PI) in the mid 70’s until the late 80’s. He later moved to Loveland/ Berthoud to care for his mother who died in 1988. Carl worked for the Loveland Auto Auction until 2010. He was easily recognized by the tattoo on his arm that read "Restroom", visible when he pointed to the right-- always to the right, he had observed,-- no matter the bar he was working at. Congenial, caring, and having a kind word for all, he was a superb story teller, his bartending mantra being, "The Great Allah once said, 'A Good Story equals or surpasses a True Story.'" (Words to live by!) A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at The Pioneer Inn, 15 East 1st St, Nederland, CO, Sunday Oct 28th, 3pm-6pm. Raise a glass, drink a toast, and tell a joke and/or story in his memory. He will be greatly missed.

He was my favorite bartender, a friend, a fellow who could read War and Peace with one hand and with his other firmly holding a good strong drink. We talked and laughed through some strange times - he was a hero in many ways. I remember going to the movies with him and seeing Officer and a Gentleman - that was a hoot doing that.

I have fond memories of Carl's visits to my office as a runner for the Loveland Auto Auction. He always had a great story to tell. I'm glad I got to know him there, and he will be missed.
