What a kind and gentle soul. He truly loved his students and was an important influence on their self confidence. He also was a talented choir director at our Lutheran Church and will be remembered with great appreciation for the positive mark he left on all who had the pleasure to meet and know him. Sincere sympathy to Kathy and family.

To Kathy and the children: I was in the Shepherd Choir back in the early 1990's and just loved singing under John. He was truly God's servant on earth. Blessings on you and the children as you grieve through you loss.

When I was in 9th grade I auditioned for the show choir at Burbank Jr. High. I was NOT gifted with a voice for singing. As Mr. Goodman informed me I had not made the choir, tears welled up in my eyes. He was perplexed at why someone not passionate about singing would be upset about not making the cut. "Mr. Goodman, all my friends are in choir. I'm just trying to be with them." Mr. Goodman's generous heart and creative mind sprung in to action. He quickly had a proposal for me. If I promised not to sing and only mouth the words I could join my friends in show choir. Deal! I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. That day Mr. Goodman taught me about generosity, adaptability, and problem solving. Mr. Goodman's joy filled influence on the lives of kids in Boulder Valley will be felt for generations.

Teachers are a gift; they just know how to touch our hearts. Mr. Goodman leaves a gift of many fond remembrances that will be spoken of often. As you warmly reflect on the experiences and lifelong joys you shared with him, trust that "they who mourn, shall be comforted". ~Matt. 5:4

One of the things that I still think about to this day is how Mr. Goodman taught us about the Beatles' "Revolution 9" and how when it played backwards it revealed what some people thought was a secret message. I was a student of his back at Burbank Junior High in 1991, and the thing that stuck with me most was what a loving, sweet teacher he was. He was one of the bright spots during those difficult years, and I just loved him. He exuded good through and through and his passion for teaching just made school that much better -- one of the classes I looked forward to most.

John was one of the most inspirational people I ever knew. He brought the best out of every one of his students (including in church choir!) and never wavered in his faith, his passion for life, or his desire to change the world. Mission accomplished!

I had the great pleasure to have known John, first, through his sweet daughters Rachael and Mendy as elementary students, and later when he volunteered at elementary schools where I taught in Longmont. His contributions to the support and education of students were countless. I will miss his friendly greetings, and his genuinely sincere desire to do good for others. He was a blessing and a wonderful man who will be missed by many.
