Katherine Kuehn Fosse Obituary
The world lost a remarkable woman on February 3, 2021, when Katherine (Katie) Kuehn Fosse passed away peacefully at home in Boulder, CO surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with cancer. Katie was born on March 15, 1958 in Milwaukee, WI, the youngest daughter of Kenneth Kuehn and Barbara (Barker) Kuehn. She grew up in nearby Whitefish Bay and graduated from Whitefish Bay High School where she was a member of the Pom Pom squad that performed at school events as well as Green Bay Packers games. Katie moved to Boulder in the summer of 1976 to attend the University of Colorado where she earned a degree in Speech Pathology in 1979 and an MBA in 1986. Katie met Kevin Fosse at a New Year's Eve party in Denver in 1984 and they were married in Fox Point, WI, on April 11, 1987. Their marriage began unconventionally with Katie living in California and Kevin in Denver until Katie transferred back to Colorado in late 1988. They moved to Boulder a few months later and daughters Kendall and Kourtney joined the family in 1992 and 1993. Katie worked in sales and marketing in the wine and beer industry. She spent the first part of her career with the E&J Gallo Winery including two years working directly with Ernest and Julio Gallo at the winery in California. After an extended "sabbatical" when her children were young, Katie joined Paulaner USA, an importer of German and English beers, which sent her to numerous Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich and across the US. It was the "best job in the world!" according to many of her friends and family. Katie skillfully juggled work and motherhood while creating a wonderful home for the family. She seemingly never missed one of the girls' soccer games or swim meets while also playing on one of the women's tennis teams at the Meadows Club. Katie loved to travel (especially to any place having a beach) and she organized many fantastic family vacations including annual summer excursions to her parents' lake house in southeast Wisconsin. As the girls grew older, they brought their friends to the lake and Katie served as hostess, chaperone, camp counselor and boat driver extraordinaire. Katie was an avid fan of the CU Buffaloes and, as a football season ticket holder for over 35 years, she attended countless tailgate parties and nearly as many games. She also looked forward to September trips to Santa Fe with her girlfriends, a tradition that has lasted for twenty-five years. And when Katie wasn't traveling, you could often find her at Efrain's restaurant enjoying a Premier margarita. Katie is dearly missed by her parents Ken and Barb, husband Kevin, daughters Kendall and Kourtney, sister Sue (Ken) Maples, nephews Dan (Becky) and Ben (Kate) Maples, great-nephews Denton and Hunter Maples, brother-in-law Kim Fosse, sister-in-law Lisa Fosse and canine companions Linus and Murphy Mae. A celebration of Katie's life is planned for mid-April in Boulder. Memorial contributions can be made to the CU Anschutz Fund for Excellence at the CU Foundation, 1800 Grant Street, Suite 725, Denver, CO 80203.
