Kurt Harald Bacher

1928 - 2016

Kurt Harald Bacher, a resident of Treyton Oak Towers, Louisville, Kentucky, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the age of 87. Kurt was born on April 26, 1928 in Salzburg, Austria and grew up in a time and place that shaped his philosophy and adventure for life. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 through the "Experiment in International Living" in Putney, VT and later earned his degree from the University of Louisville J.B. Speed School of Engineering in 1956. He had a career as an electrical engineer in Europe and South America with Brown Boveri before moving back to Virginia where he radically changed careers to become a farmer. He retired to Louisville in 2008. An avid skier and aviator, among many other passions, Kurt lived life to the fullest. He was a gentle man with a strong moral compass and a great sense of humor who was loved by everyone who met or knew him. He will be remembered for the man that he was, the example that he set, and the life that he led. He is survived by his three children, Michael, Cordelia and Frederick; grandchildren Elizabeth, Manfred, Didrik and Zach; life partner Sue Speed and the mother of his children, Frederica Sterling.
