Lucy Meisel Obituary

Lucy Meisel of Louisville, Colorado found eternal life Sunday, October 22, 2023 at the age of 79 years. She was born May 20, 1944 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Robert and Jesse McLaughlin (Craig). Lucy was a loving wife to her husband Paul Meisel of 53 years and together they raised their two sons, Tim and Todd. Lucy's love for life was shown in many ways. There wasn't an animal she didn't like and if she could have adopted every dog or cat she would have. She loved spending time outdoors swimming. In the summer, you could always find her at Memory Square Pool swimming laps. In fact, she swam so much one summer, the chemicals in the pool messed with the chemicals in her hair turning it light green. Lucy worked for the Milwaukee Journal as a beat writer, before focusing on her real love of cooking. In 1973 Lucy and Paul moved to Aurora, Colorado. Along with raising her sons, she taught adult evening cooking classes and would try-out many recipes on her own family. In the mid 1990's she realized her real dream of teaching kids and went back to school to become a teacher. She was a Home Economics teacher at Broomfield Heights Middle School before retiring in 2009. She thought of her students as her own kids and loved each and every one of them. 1960's Rock & Roll was her favorite music, and she would often have the radio in the car at full blast singing along with the music. She was a beloved mother of Tim (Christina) and Todd (Kelly) and a proud grandmother of Douglas, Daniel and Dakoda. She was the oldest of 3 children and loved her siblings, Molly, Susan (John), and many other relatives and friends. Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul, and her parents. A celebration of Lucy's life will be held on November 17th at Greenwood and Myers Mortuary, 2969 Baseline Rd., Boulder, CO 80303, from 4pm to 7pm. It will be an open house and we ask you to bring stories about Lucy. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association. A donation page has been set up in her honor https://act.alz.org/site/ TR?pg=fund&fr_id=1060&pxfid=852280

This breaks my heart to read. Mrs. Meisel taught me so much and nurtured my love for cooking. She taught me to sew (which let´s be honest I was not the best student) and I will always remember the class stuffing fights and dumdums on especially hard days. I kept stopping by to visit her when I could even from the high school. She will and always has held a giant piece of my heart.

Lucy was one of my teachers in middle school. At a time when I felt like I was absolutely lost in the world, she was always there. She fed me when I was hungry, she hugged me when I needed a hug, she was an absolute joy and light to her students. She had a large hand in shaping who I am as a person. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to her family and those who were blessed by her presence. Thank you Mrs. Meisel for being such a beacon of hope for your students over the years.

Lucy, the picture on your obituary, says it all. You were absolutely the funniest most welcoming person in our building. I loved your smile and your good sense of humor. The world lost someone special. Patti Wagner.
