Wayside will never be the same

March 11, 2014

Mike, We were so sad to hear about Mary's passing. My first memory of meeting her was at the lake house the summer we were both pregnant, she with Michael and me with Kimberly. We shared many laughs and stories over the years and it is so hard to believe that she is gone. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your children at this difficult time. You will be in our thoughts, Karen and family

It is difficult to accept the fact that our Mary is not physically with us. I do believe; however, that she is with our Lord and her pain is over.
The service was beautiful and I know that Mary is proud of all of us for showing our love.
The Lord wanted her back and we need to remember that she is God's child. We just need to accept the Lord's decision and let go and let God!

Mike, Jeanette and Michael,
Just came home from from Mary's wake, each filled with our own set of emotional responses to having say goodbye to Mary. I think Meghan offered the best response to help on our attempt to say goodbye, Luke Bryan's song "Have A Beer". An almost perfect summation of our feelings. Mary, we loved you more than we could express. Mike, Jeanette and Michael, we willl have that beer, and on that pier. I promise! Love you all, always.

Mike and family,
I just heard about Mary's passing....I worked with her at Wayside for a few years, and enjoyed getting to know such a sincere, kind, sweet person. I never heard her say a negative thing, and that speaks volumes. I can understand how her students must have loved her! I'm so sorry for your enormous loss. Sue Cox

May the memories of which you shared with Mary remain close to your heart. Having a person of whom you loved dearly fall asleep in death is never easy.. Therefore, may you take comfort in knowing that God cares for you and is there for you.

Our prayers are with your family during this very sad and difficult time. Mary was a wonderful person and a very dedicated & caring teacher; OLW was a richer community because of her. One of her many outstanding qualities was that she always reinforced the positive in her students and encouraged them. Wishing you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts.

Mrs. Bukowski was one of a kind . We were so very, very fortunate to have her in our lives. She went beyond the classroom to reach the children in the most loving Christian way possible . She truly loved each and every child she encountered, encouraged them and guided them with her kind words and most famous hugs .
Our children always made sure to see her and stop by her house on Halloween , she went out of her way to talk to them and gave them large candy bars too ! She made them feel extra special !
I'll personally never forget her arriving at my father-in-laws wake in Wilmette. She came all the way out to share her condolences. We were moved to tears . She held my hands and said beautiful things about death . She was one of the most comforting people to me abd my husband Bill that terrible day and I have always been grateful for that . I could write forever what we felt and thought about your Mom and wife . The stories will come to you for years through countless people not only from the Wayside community, but beyond .
Thank you Mrs .Bukowski for making a beautiful, lasting imprint on to our children's lives and our family as a whole . You will be missed and remembered fondly in our minds , prayers and many pages of our children's photo albums. I know God has embraced your beautiful soul . Rest in peace !
