Richard McDowell Obituary

Richard (Dick) McDowell passed away peacefully at home on December 2, 2014, he was 91. He is survived by his stepson Bobby Burger (Holly); three beloved grandchildren, Beck Burger, Nick Burger (Laura), Jennifer Jennings (Grant) & three great grandchildren Alex Conn, Michael Jennings & Evan Burger. Dick was born May 23, 1923 in Rosalie, NE. He joined the Navy in 1945, attended University of Nebraska where he joined Sigma Chi Fraternity, then changed to CU to study engineering. Many will remember "McDowell's House of Photography" on the hill near CU which Dick owned for over 20 years. He eventually changed his focus to construction; "McDowell's Construction Co." built commercially & residentially. Dick married Shirley Burger (dec. 2012) in 1960. He was a family man caring deeply for his wife of 51 years, his stepson Bobby, as well as 17 nieces & nephews. Known as "Bumpa" to his grandchildren, he was renowned for generosity, wit & kindness. Dick loved family, golf, fishing, skiing, CU football, Buff Club & his second residence in San Marcos, CA. Per his request, there will be a simple interment at St. John's Episcopal Church Columbariumin Boulder, where he will rest with his beloved Shirley. Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital in Denver or Boulder Community Hospital.
