It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry E. Moore, who left us on Sunday, August 10, 2025, in Michie, Tenn., at the age of 80 years. He was born on February 3, 1945, in Michie, the son of the late Clifford Washington and Geneva Louise Brown Moore.
Barry shared a lifetime of love and partnership with his beloved wife, Virginia Gale Harvell, whom he married on December 23, 1966. Their 58 years together were filled with devotion and companionship.
A proud veteran, Barry served with distinction in the United States Army for two years and continued his commitment to his country through 18 years in the Army National Guard, totaling 20 years of honorable service. His dedication extended into his professional life, where he worked for 35 years with Norfolk Southern Railroad as a conductor.
An avid outdoorsman, Barry cherished his time spent hunting and at the family farm. He loved his community and served as alderman and later as Mayor of Michie, Tenn. Known for his friendly demeanor, he could often be found enjoying coffee every morning at Michie One Stop or spending time at the Michie water plant.
Barry was a devoted member of Oakland Baptist Church in Corinth, exemplifying faithfulness to God, his family, and his community.
He leaves behind a loving family: his wife, Gale Moore; three daughters, Carrie Ann Moore Barksdale and husband Ray of Madison, Miss., Mary Beth Moore Taylor and husband Shane of Michie, Tenn., and Jenny Rebecca Moore Collins and husband Clay of Southaven, Miss.; seven grandchildren: Gennybeth, Jake, and Alen Barksdale, Abby and Jack Taylor, Cooper and Fisher Collins. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Moore and wife Judy of Michie, Tenn., and a host of extended family and friends.
Barry E. Moore will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his deep-rooted sense of community. He touched many lives and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 1 p.m. to service time at Shackelford Funeral Home in Selmer. Service will begin at 3 p.m., with Bro. Randy Bostick officiating. Burial will follow in the Michie Cemetery with military honors at Michie, Tenn. Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer is honored to serve the family of Barry E. Moore.
