Bernice Lenich was called home by her Savior on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the age of 97. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories, steadfast faith, and kindness.
Born December 26, 1927 in Rienzi, to Calvin and Mary Florence Cosby, Bernice was the youngest of six children. In Corinth, she met the love of her life, Francis Augustus "Bud" Lenich. They married on December 11, 1949, and shared more than fifty years together.
Bernice and Bud welcomed daughters Teresa and Sue in Corinth before moving to Ardmore, Okla., in 1966.
Faith, family, and community were central to Bernice's life. A devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, she loved her Sunday School class, was active in the Women's Club, and volunteered at the hospital and food bank. She was known for her award-winning sewing and quilting, her apple pies and banana breads, and the warmth with which she shared them. She also enjoyed the fellowship of the Red Hat Ladies Club.
In 2023, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, to be near family, quickly forming new friendships through book club, Bible study, arts and crafts, bingo, and jigsaw puzzles.
Bernice will be remembered for her devotion to family, unwavering faith, and generous spirit. Her life was a testament to love, faith, and kindness, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband, Bernice is survived by daughters Teresa (Barry) Carpenter and Sue (Max) Hibbs; grandchildren Lori Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter, Kristen (Landon) Erickstad and Casey (Jenna) Hibbs; and eight great-grandchildren.

Bernice and I have been "soul-sisters" since her arrival at Laurels Assisted Living. Her friendship has been a beautiful gift. We have shared prayer, laughter, songs, books, puzzles... our daily lives.
