She attended school at Burton and graduated at New Site High School, where she met the love of her life, Wrather Hughes. They married on April 17, 1947, after he returned from serving in the U.S. Navy. Through the years, they lived in New Site; Marked Tree, Arkansas; and St. Louis before retiring back to Booneville. She enjoyed attending Grace Methodist Church in Booneville for many years and singing in the choir. She loved raising vegetables and beautiful flowers in her yard. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter Ariel.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, William Wrather Hughes; a brother, Vester Wroten; a sister, Betty Baker; a granddaughter, Angela Hughes; and a step-grandson, Bobby Wayne Reeves.
Survivors are her son, Jimmy Hughes and wife Louise of Booneville; her daughter, Linda Johnston and husband Nick of Corinth; her grandchildren, Jebb Johnston and Jeremy Johnston, both of Corinth; a step-granddaughter, Becky Reiner and husband James of Corinth; a great-granddaughter, Ariel Johnston; two step-great-granddaughters, LaTosha Reeves and Courtney Reeves; and several step-great-great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Selena, Mia, Alex and Jayna.
