Paul Roberts Obituary

Sept. 27, 1930 - Aug. 17, 2018 Woodland Paul William Roberts, 87, passed away on Aug. 17, in Woodland. Paul was born on Sept. 27, 1930, in Woodland to Revan Ruy Roberts and Alma Cecilia (Deans) Roberts. Paul graduated from Woodland High School in 1950. Paul had fond memories working for Reiff Farms during high school. With his interest in agriculture, Paul began college at UC Davis. But this was soon interrupted by the Korean War. Paul enlisted into the US Navy on Dec. 30, 1950; one day before receiving his draft papers. Paul felt honored to serve his country as a Machinist Mate 2 aboard the USS Harry E. Hubbard DD 748 and the USS Hamul AD 20. Paul received an honorable discharge from the Navy, earning four service awards. The day after Paul's discharge from the Navy, he married his bride of now nearly 64 years, Betty (Grant) Roberts on Oct. 26, 1954 in Riverside. Paul and Betty immediately moved north to Paul's hometown of Woodland. Here they built their first home and raised their son and daughter. Paul began working for Adams Schwab and Adams, now Adams Grain Company, in 1955. Paul loved his work at Adams as a metal fabricator and he made many friendships there that lasted a lifetime. Paul attempted to retire several times, but he seemed to always find his way back to Adams Grain until finally fully retiring after 52 years in 2007. Paul was a very skilled craftsman and could fabricate anything that he put his mind to. He loved working with wood and metals both. His passion was building projects for his friends and family. Paul's friends meant the world to him and he considered each and every one of them his family. Paul also enjoyed going to the two local high school football games. Whether it was a home game or traveling out of town, he did not like to miss a Friday night game. By far, what Paul loved the most, was spending his days with the love of his life, Betty. They both shared a passion for their Labrador Retrievers and spending time with their family and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Revan and Alma Roberts, and his sister-in-law, Lucy Roberts. Paul is survived by his wife, Betty Roberts; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bill Wilson; brother, Allen Roberts; son, Eric Roberts; daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Tony Delevati; grandchildren, Kerry Roberts (Chris Duffield), Deanna (Daniel) Novack, Alex Delevati, Billie Roberts, Matthew Roberts, Emily Roberts and Katie Roberts; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kaitlin Duffield; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 7, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon. This service is open to all. There will be a celebration of life for Paul at 11 a.m., Sept. 27, at the Yolo Fliers Club, 17980 County Road 94B, Woodland. The family asks that, if you were one of those that Paul made a project for, to please bring a picture to share on a memory board for everyone to see. To honor Paul, and if you are so inclined, please wear your best blue jeans. He would not have it any other way. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Woodland Schools Foundation (WSF) P.O. Box 1579, Woodland 95776 for the purpose of helping with the rebuilding efforts of the new Woodland High School Stadium. Arrangements entrusted to Kraft Brothers Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear about Paul's passing. I enjoyed the many conversations that I had with him during the last 2 years while waiting for my grand-children at Zamora school. He told me stories of his past and I can't believe all the people he knew. He spoke a lot about you Betty and his whole face lit up when he did. My prayers and condolences to you and your family. He was a amazing man, and he will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Paul;I got to know Paul when I sub-hauled for Adam's trucking. I would pull in to Adams mill on the corner of east and Gibson in late 70's and 80's, Paul would always have a smile on his face and if we had time we would B.S. a little. Paul was a very good person and will be missed.

Psalms 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years. May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
