My heart is broken today at the loss of a tremendous teammate. It feels like a part of me is gone with Dave and Bobby. I had the perfect vantage point from centerfield almost every game in 1971 to admire Bobby's special gifts and magic behind the plate at
SCC. Bobby's body mechanics and skill set were incredible. His level of agility, quickness, coordination, relaxation and smoothness were so rare to see in a catcher. Watching Bobby play was like watching rows and rows of Dominos toppling over perfectly on each other. Just a natural. Best catcher I ever saw! and a wonderful hitter.
In 1998 just before my father pasted, my father and I had the fortune of sitting with Bobby and his father at a Woodland High Baseball game for the entire game. It was a good reunion of old teammates I will never forget and Bobby and his Dad drove us to our broken down car after the game. I wish that I could have in some way returned the favor to Bobby. Bobby was a big part of a special group of men whose respect for each other is deeply cherished. And Bobby's memory will always live on loud in every one of us from that 71 SCC team. Bobby's quite leadership contributed to inspired me and others to play better for the team and helped fuel our fire to win. My deepest sympathy and condolences to all the Gale Family. Bobby will forever have a special place in my heart. And I know the Lord has him now because he needed a special person to play catcher and Bobby is at peace doing what Bobby loves most. Bobby and the Gale family are in my prayers.

To the family of Bob Gale: It is not often that an old coach is faced with the loss of two battery mates that were an integral part of a team and time in his professional life that will always be cherished and never forgotetten. First we first lost pitcher, Dave Lanfair, and now catcher, Bobby Gale, two ballplayers who helped make my coaching experience at SCC, along with all the rest of the 1971 Championship team, an unforgettable experience.
But as for Bob, he became more than just a ballplayer to my wife, Penny, and I, as his family embraced us many times with their hospitality, encouragement, friendship, confidence and many BBQ's at their home. We have missed seeing them over the years and are very saddened that they have since passed; and we will miss seeing Bob and his contagious smile as well. Don and Liz, you have done yourselves proud. And so have all who knew Bob Gale and his passion for the game of baseball, and were proud to call him their teammate.
We will not be able to attend the upcoming celebration of life, but I'm sure we'll see you "around the infield" some day, Bobbie; and I promise that you will again, reminiscent of old times, be on the lineup card in that familiar #2 position.

Bobby's passing has saddened my wife, Paulette and I. We ran into Bobby and met Debbie 2 yrs ago at a Derek Trucks concert in SF. Six months later played golf w/Bobby, brother Mike, Joe B., and Randy "Doc" B. It all reminded me of our SCC days playing baseball, going to concerts, and Easter break at the cabin (Strawberry Lodge chocolate). We played legion baseball against each other for 3 yrs so I knew what kind of talent he had. In baseball the measure of a good team is determined by how strong you are up the middle. c,p,ss,2b,cf Bobby was the catcher on our 1971 championship team at SCC. He had a strong, quiet presence that set the tone for our team. But when the game ended it was all about relaxing and having a good time. A few yrs later we played pro ball against each other. Of course a good time was had after the games. I won't be able to attend the celebration for Bobby so I wanted this to be my opportunity to share my thoughts. I hope you all will find solace in the memories of Bobby that make you smile. I'm smiling right now. Bobby I'll see you after the game.
