Romelia Castillo Obituary

Romelia "Ruby" Castillo, age 73, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020, after a long fought battle with dementia and kidney disease. She was surrounded by her loved ones, although, due to Covid-19, only immediate family was allowed at her bedside. It had been almost a year that any family was able to physically visit with her and only shared numerous video chats and phone calls with her during that time. We are very thankful to God that we were able to physically spend the last two weeks with her before her passing.Romelia was born November 20, 1947, in Tamaulipas, Mexico to Claudio Bernal and Dolores Santos Edad. She was the fifth of ten children. She was a longtime resident of Madison, CA where she made a home for her four children, two nephews and niece who she raised as her own.Romelia is survived by her daughters, Rose Castillo, Lorie Castillo and Leticia Villanueva Day (niece); her sons, Ed Castillo, Javier Roman Figueroa and Francisco Bernal (nephew); 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and six of her siblings. She was preceded into death by her mother and father, Dolores and Claudio Bernal, her son (nephew), Mark Anthony Ochoa; her siblings, Mary Jessie Bernal, Ortencia Galvan, Johnny Bernal; her nephew Johnny Galvan and two granddaughters, Leticia and Claudia.Due to COVID-19 restrictions we are unable to have a mass or reception to celebrate her life at this time. Our hope is that in this next year, we will be able to have a proper service and celebration where family and friends can attend after a graveside service at Monument Hill, where she will lay to rest.
