Dennis Lenahan Obituary

Dennis A. Lenahan Jr. Retired Deputy Fire Chief Kingston Fire Department SAUGERTIES- Dennis A. Lenahan Jr. of Beach Road, died at his home on Wednesday Nov. 17, 2010 he was 73 years of age. Born in Kingston Aug. 7, 1937 the son of the late Dennis A. Lenahan Sr., and Dorothy Ellsworth Lenahan. After graduation from Kingston High School, in 1956, Dennis enlisted in The United States Navy. He proudly served aboard The U.S.S. Greenwood deployed to Cuba, Charleston, Boston. After discharge from the Navy he purchased the Boulevard ESSO service station. In 1965 Dennis Lenahan was appointed to The Kingston Fire Department. His career continued with promotions to Lieutenant in 1974, Captain in 1976 and Deputy Chief in 1980. He served as a fire commissioner and retired October 2 1985, closing out a distinguished twenty year career. He served local 461 as a vice president, was active in public service and political Democratic party politics; volunteering on the mayoral campaigns of Frank Koenig, Donald Quick, and T.R. Gallo. Serving as chairman of Ulster County MDA, a member of the original Board of Directors Ulster County Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf at Twaalfskill golf club, and was an artist. His first love was his family and adored his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Bernice Coughlin Lenahan. One daughter Cathysue Fisher of Kingston, one son, Michael D. Lenahan of Port Ewen; grandchildren: Christopher Smith and his wife Alisha, Meghan, and Colleen Fisher, Sara, and Kelly Lenahan, Brittanie Castiglione, and great-grandson Julian Bania. Many cousins nieces and nephews survive. The funeral procession for Dennis will form Saturday 9 a.m. at The Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Ave. www.jvleahy fh.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary's Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck rural cemetery.
