Dorothy M. Shanley-Hedges PALENVILLE- Dorothy M. Shanley-Hedges, age 83, of Palenville, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 5, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Maurits L. and Aagot M. (Johanessen) Nilson. Dorothy was an employee of the Friar Tuck Inn in Kiskatom for over 28 years prior to her retirement. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Joseph Shanley on Jan. 4, 1974; a son, John J. Shanley on July 20, 1995; a daughter, Lynne Marie Shanley-McGlynn on April 22, 2002; and her second husband, Robert Hedges on April 3, 2011. Dorothy was a lifelong Mets fan who watched every game until the end. Dorothy loved to crochet and she made a blanket for each and every grandchild. Mrs. Shanley-Hedges is survived by five sons, Bruce and Gina Shanley, Dennis Shanley, Daniel Shanley Sr., Thomas and Cindy Shanley Sr., Raymond and Michele Shanley Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Elysse Engelhardt; four stepchildren, Kathleen (Joe) Ruscito, Patricia (Jack) McNeff, Joseph (Cheryl) Hedges; and Andrew Hedges; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her beloved Benji. Relatives and friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Traver & McCurry Funeral Home, 234 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. Funeral services are 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Palenville. Fr. Paul Guido will be officiating. Interment will be in Palenville Cemetery.
