I knew Rick in the late 70s thru mid 80s. The Rick I knew loved boxing and baseball but was also an avid runner. I went to boxing matches with him in Orlando, watched Mets games together and we both ran the 1980 NYC Marathon. I lost track of him when I left Florida. But I think of him often and remember him fondly. RIP, my friend.

It was a service he so deserved, and he rests among fellow soldiers. He was very proud to have served his Country, and always quickly added that he was honorably discharged!
I agree, although coaching boxing was a passion, and following it, he never lost that passion for baseball and faithfully followed, as well as basketball. I am a Heat fan, Rick and I had many debates, he could never really forgive the Heat for stealing away Pat Riley from NY! I don't think he appreciated the "Go Heat" posters I'd put on his door! :)
Rick was a very special person, and is missed dearly, the world just seems different without him in it. May the memories we each have be a blessing, may he rest in peace.

So sad to hear of Rick's passing. There was a time when Rick and I spent most of our free time together. Boxing may have become his passion as time passed, but when I knew him it was baseball! The two of us spent countless hours practicing at Dietz Stadium. Occasionally Gerry Hawkins would drop by.
Baseball was oxygen to Rick. He even took the time to write "scouting reports" on each of us.
Over the years I tried to find out what had happened to him but he seemed to have disappeared.
My sympathies to the many friends I am certain he made during the course of his life.
Those who know better realize when a friend passes so too does a part of all of our lives. Today is a very sad day indeed.
