Robert Sickler Obituary

Robert Edison Sickler KINGSTON- Robert Edison Sickler, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2017. Robert, known to all his friends and family as “Bob”, is survived by his devoted wife Pauline Sickler of Kingston, N.Y.; his son, Robert H. Sickler and daughter-in-law Barbara (Heitzman) Sickler of Stone Ridge, N.Y.; granddaughter, Alison R. Sickler of Watsonville, Calif.; and cousin, Coralie (Sickler) Barlow who was like a sister to him from East Durham, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gertrude (Franz) Sickler. Bob was born on Oct. 21, 1929 in Kingston, N.Y., to parents Hiram D. Sickler and Rachel (Scott) Sickler. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1948. Many people will remember Bob as the “best shoe salesman in Kingston” working many years for Greenwald’s and Glynn’s Shoe Stores on Fair and Wall Streets. He was also an accomplished musician and played piano/organ in a band called the Music Makers. After retirement he enjoyed entertaining at senior centers and local cruises where he often was surrounded by voices of the audience singing along to all their favorites of the 40’s and 50’s. Bob was a great husband, family man, caring father and grandfather. He married Pauline in 1994 and he was welcomed into a second loving family consisting of many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whom he adored. His family and friends will always remember him as quick with a “corny” joke, a man who loved to eat (especially desserts), never complaining, always having a smile on his face, and loved by all who met him. Entrusted to Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston, N.Y., where calling hours will take place on Monday, April 24, 2017, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with the service starting at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery, Kingston. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Family Inn Shelter, 38 Thomas St., Kingston, N.Y., 12401. To leave an expression of sympathy, please visit www.KeyserFuneralService.com

I will always remember My "Uncle Bob" Who I grew up with in my early years in Kingston. My memories included walking thru the woods to Forsyth Park on snow skis with our ice skates around our necks to a frozen little lake area where we skated many times. We also played tennis at the tennis courts on Lucas ave. He would play the piano while I sang our made up songs. Too many fun memories to list them all.We never forgot each others Birthday with a card.I received my last one September 5th, 1916. I know I'll be looking for his card every year.I will never forget you. You were the brother I never had. Maybe Jesus will start wearing different shoes when he meets you in Heaven! Love you always Your niece, June
