Rose Theresa (Costello) Rinaldi of Saugerties died peacefully at Health Alliance Hospital surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 28, 2023 after a brief illness. Rose would have celebrated her 100 th birthday on July 6. She was the last survivor of ten children born to Louis and Mary Susan (Mayone) Costello. Rosegrew up and attended school in Glasco and was a lifelong resident of the Town of Saugerties. She was employed at several local dress and clothing manufacturing concerns in the area before marriage. She later became the head waitress at the Flamingo Restaurant in Saugerties, a position she held for over thirty years. She also worked as a lunch monitor at Cahill Elementary School. On October 29, 1950, she married the late Bernard M. (Ben) Rinaldi with whom she had four children. She was deeply devoted to her family, always looking out for their welfare. She lived a remarkably healthy life, being ill only infrequently and walking several miles each day for many years. She also became an active member at IXL Fitness from its opening until 2020. She had many friends there and looked forward to her morning workouts. She lived by the maxims of hard work and home cooked meals, being an excellent cook. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Snow in Saugerties. She was a past member of the American Legion Post 82 Women's Auxiliary Survivors include her four children, two sons John 'Jack' (Nina) of
Loudon, Tennessee; Thomas (Gayle) of New Paltz; daughters Maria Wuchte of East Greenbush; and Susan of Saugerties; four grandchildren Daniel Rinaldi of North Knoxville, Tennessee; Loribeth Torok of Amsterdam; Annmarie Rinaldi of North Knoxville, Tennessee; and Paul Rinaldi of Boston. Great granddaughter and joy of Rose's life Madeline Rose Cino of Amsterdam; sisters in law Stella Costello and Maria Costello both of Glasco; special friends Connie and Mike Catalinotto; and special friend of the family Michael Stewart of
Springfield, Massachusetts; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her husband Ben, her son-in-law Frank Wuchte and her nine siblings, brothers Frank, Louis and Fred Costello; her sisters Rosina (Fannie) DeCicco, Stella Sasso, Marge Forcino,Mary Misasi and Theresa Misasi. Her other sibling Ernestina died in childbirth. For years Rose made daily trips to St. Mary's Cemetery ensuring that the graves of her family members were tended to with loving care. The family wishes to thank the staff at Bridge Street Medical including PA Pam DiStefano, PA Margaret Decker and Dr. Eugene Heslin. The family is also grateful to her caregivers who were with herfor several months prior to her passing. These include Tita Altagracia, Leslie Hornbeck, Jean Burhans, JoAnne Treutler, Ellen Hughes and Penny Buck. She received excellent care provided by the staff at Health Alliance Hospital just prior to her passing. The family is also grateful for the services provided by Hudson Valley Hospice. A procession will form Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Buono Funeral Service, Inc. and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow Church where a 1000 am Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
