Stephen Hack Obituary

Stephen J. Hack KINGSTON - Stephen J. Hack, 80, of Kingston, went into the arms of the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2012 with his loving family by his side. Stephen was born on Feb. 26, 1932 in Paterson, N.J., the son of the late Stephen and Mary Hack. After high school, he attended Purdue University in Indiana where he earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Later he attended Babson College in Mass. earning his M.B.A. while coaching the tennis team. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1955 - 1957. Stephen married the love of his life, Kathleen Watts, on Oct. 19, 1968 in Albany. He was the loving father of four who enjoyed vacationing with his wife in Cape May, N.J. and with his entire family in Wildwood, N.J. He worked for IBM in Kingston and Poughkeepsie for 34 years as a financial analyst. He was a member of IBM's Quarter Century Club, the Knights of Columbus and Saint Joseph's Church in Kingston. He could often be found playing blocks in the family room and baseball in the back yard with his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's school, dance and sporting events. After retirement, he did what he loved most: making pancakes for his grandchildren. He is survived by Kathleen, his wife of 43 years and his four children: Stephen J. Hack, Jr. and his wife Colleen of Kingston, Deborah Van Anden and her husband Robert of Queensbury, Mary Kelly and her husband Cary of Wilmette, Ill. and Lorraine Keimel and her husband Christopher of Niskayuna. He is survived by nine adoring grandchildren: Sarah, Julia, Bradley, William, Kristin, Jeffrey, Nathan, Katie and Bret. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Stephen is predeceased by his brother, Joseph Hack and his sister, Amy Lochrane. The Hack family will receive family and friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Saturday from the funeral home at 9:15 a.m., for a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Steve - my condolences to you and your family. I worked with your Dad for several years at IBM. He was a key contributor to a wide variety of successful products - but more importantly, he was just an absolute pleasure to work with. Despite some of the challenges we had, your father was always a very positive influence on those around him - and I am sure that was true in all aspects of his life. I will forget all those projects and products over time, but not the special people - like your Dad, that made them fun to work on. Take care...

I worked with Steve at IBM and remember him as a special person. He was a true gentleman; always smiling and respected by everyone. I'm sure he is with God and knows how much he is missed.
