Max Carpenter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones Funeral Chapel Inc on Mar. 11, 2026.
Max Thurman Carpenter, age 84 of Morgantown, KY, known affectionately as Max to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Born on August 20, 1941, in Union City, Indiana, Max lived a full and heartfelt life marked by service, devotion to his family, and love for his community.

Max's journey through life began as the beloved son of Noel Thurman and Inez Marie Puckett Carpenter. Although he eventually bid farewell to his parents and six siblings, Sue Bressler, Noel "Bud" Carpenter, David Carpenter, Jane Smith, Roberta Buell, and Pat Carpenter, who preceded him in death, the values they instilled in him lived on through his actions and the love he shared with those around him.

He was a cherished pillar in his family, adored by his loving wife of 30 years, Carolyn Carpenter of Morgantown, Kentucky. Max was also a guiding light for his children, Thomas Andrew Carpenter of Booneville, Indiana, and Rebecca Sue Domeck of Indianapolis, Indiana. His legacy continued to shine in the joyful laughter of his two grandchildren, Estelle and Lincoln Domeck, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as in the lives of several nieces and nephews who looked up to him.

Max's educational pursuits culminated in earning a Bachelor's degree from Purdue University, an accomplishment that served as the bedrock for his noteworthy career. The discipline and camaraderie he experienced as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force stayed with him long after his military service concluded. Those qualities seamlessly translated into his civilian life where he worked as a farm machinery salesman. He actively engaged within the Green River Missionary Baptist Church, where his faith and friendliness enriched the lives of every congregant. His commitment to fellow veterans was evident through his dedicated membership in the Granville Allen VFW Post 5887.

Outside of his formal roles, Max took joy in running machinery, a pastime that combined his love for the outdoors with the satisfaction of a job well done. He equally loved to raise his voice in song, a testimony to the joy and faith that filled his heart. To know Max was to experience the presence of someone who was genuinely loving, unfailingly friendly, and deeply faith-filled.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mitch Ash and Bro. Kelly Harris Officiating. Burial will be in the Green River Cemetery where Military rites will be conducted by the AMVETS Post 117. Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel and on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 12:00pm until funeral time at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
