William J. Scheltmeyer

RED HOOK- William J. “Bill” Scheltmeyer, 78, a longtime Red Hook resident and former Norwalk, Conn., resident, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Northeast Center in Rehabilitation in Lake Katrine, N.Y. Born on June 26, 1942, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was the son of the late Ellsworth and Dorothy T. (Lambo) Scheltmeyer. Bill was a graduate of, the Class of, 1960 at Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, N.Y., and then enlisted in the Army where he trained to be a Helicopter Mechanic. Bill married Gale Blauvelt on March 2, 1962 in Salisbury, N.C. For many years, Bill worked for Perkin Elmer where he had the privilege of working on the team that built the Hubble Space Telescope. A former communicant of St. Christopher Church in Red Hook, and a member of their Holy Name Society. Bill was also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bill loved being outdoors and especially enjoyed Fishing. Bill is survived by his wife Gale (Rockledge, Fla.) in addition to his children, Tracy Demos (Michael) of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kelly Scheltmeyer of Melbourne, Fla., Regina Wong (Norbert) of Natick, Mass., and Michael Scheltmeyer of Norwich, Conn.; five grandchildren; Joel and David Bollinger, Tyler and Brittany Wong and Harley Scheltmeyer; his siblings, Wayne Scheltmeyer and Judy Jesek; along with extended family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Christopher Church in Red Hook on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Noon. Funeral services will be held on May 26 th at 2:00pm in Melbourne, Florida. Bill’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the Nurses and Staff at the Northeast Center for Rehabilitation and Brain Injury for the exceptional care they gave him during the many years he resided there.
