Poughkeepsie – Wayne C. Scheltmeyer 69, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2024 with his devoted, beloved, life partner Marion by his side.
Wayne was born on September 22, 1954, at Vassar Hospital in Poughkeepsie. He was the youngest son of the late Ellsworth and Dorothy T. (Lambo) Scheltmeyer and is predeceased by his brother William J. Scheltmeyer (Gale) of
Red Hook, NY. He is survived by his beloved, life partner, Marion G. Stevensky of

Columbia, Missouri (Clare Castro); two grandchildren Alexander and Riley and several nieces; Tracy, Kelly, Regina and a nephew; Michael, along with extended family and friends and his two best friends, his dogs, Holly and Luke. He will be deeply missed by them all.
Wayne was a graduate of, the Class of 1972 at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park. In his early career he was an automotive mechanic with a passion for muscle cars and motorcycles. He spent countless hours with his father and his brother rebuilding and restoring cars along with scenic motorcycle rides that also included, and is treasured, by his nieces. Through the years, his car collection included but was not limited to a Plymouth "Road Runner", a 1969 Pontiac GTO "The Judge", a 1955 Chevy, "Two Lane, Black Top" and lastly his most prized possession, his 1957 Chevy.
Years later he embarked on a career that would define much of his professional life. As a dedicated truck driver for Teamster's Union Local #445 in Rock Tavern, Wayne was known for his reliability and the respect he showed to everyone on the road and at work. His retirement marked the end of a chapter filled with hard work and camaraderie, but also the beginning of new adventures and opportunities to spend time with his loved ones. In retirement he was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.
Wayne had many hobbies that included fishing, league bowling, clock restorations and ultimately the restoration of his childhood home. Noting that anything with a motor, took priority. He was passionate about keeping his childhood and family memories alive and dedicated countless hours to collecting memorabilia.
In honoring Wayne's memory, we take solace in knowing that he lived a life full of purpose and love.
