Gary Merle Russell

Gary Merle Russell, 71, of Staatsburg, NY, passed away on January 22, with his loving wife by his side.

Born on December 30, 1954, in Poughkeepsie, NY, Gary was the beloved son of Merle and Margaret Russell. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Nothing brought Gary more joy than his family-especially his grandchildren, whom he adored deeply.

Gary was known for his incredible work ethic, his mechanical mind, and his ability to fix just about anything. He was someone you could always count on. Those closest to him can attest to his fierce loyalty and generosity toward the people he loved. As his wife and daughters often joked, "If Grandpa can't fix it, we're all screwed."

Gary is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maryann; his daughters, Gina Eisner (Evan) and Laura Bascue (Charles); his sister and brothers, Diane Russell (John), Brian Russell, and Doug Russell; his cherished grandchildren, Luca and Mila Bascue and Jake Eisner; and nieces and nephews.

Gary was the proud owner of Hyde Park Auto Body for 25 years and worked at many other shops throughout his lifetime. He took great pride in his work and was known for taking exceptional care of his customers.

Throughout the years, Gary enjoyed many hobbies and interests, including working on cars, spending time outdoors, snowmobiling, jet skiing, boating, and riding motorcycles-he loved anything that moved. One of the greatest memories his family will always treasure is the countless summers spent together at the Jersey Shore.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, from 2-5 pm at Sweet's Funeral Home in Hyde Park, NY. Funeral and burial services will follow on Thursday, January 29th, beginning at the funeral home at 10am and concluding at the Town of Rhinebeck Cemetery Natural Burial Ground.
