As my classmate Tom Wakeman said below, Mr. Schick was an amazing teacher. He not only was a great teacher of history and social studies, who went well beyond duty for his students, but he was a role model for us to aspire to - how to live your life to help all others. I am so grateful that we re-connected in recent years...though I still had a hard time calling him "Alan"! Mr. Schick was one of a kind. There is a special place for him in heaven. Very few others enjoy that company. Thank you Mr. Schick!

Mr. Schick was one of the best teachers I ever had, particularly in Social Studies and American History, way back in the early 1970s. He taught us to treat everyone we met with respect, and took our class on a couple of memorable field trips - one to Cooperstown (the Farmers´ Museum, not the Baseball Hall of Fame), and to the movie "1776." He made a lasting impression.

Mr. Schick was the reason I became a teacher 22 years ago. As my 6th grade teacher, he was the first adult to truly respect and listen to my thoughts and opinions. He was truly a unique and special man. My condolences to his family

Alan was a genuinely good person. An excellent teacher, who sought out ways to provide personalized opportunities to his students. A model citizen, who served the community selflessly. It was an honor to know him.

I was a freshman at SJA when Alan was a senior. We had an assignment to write about someone we admired, and I wrote that Alan was my idol. Somehow, he just had that manner... Thank you Alan.

I was an alterboy with Alan. One of the finest human beings I've ever known. A superb and dedicated teacher at St. Helen's . My two daughters benefitted greatly from his teaching and influence. We will forever remember him in our hearts. John Angerosa Jr.

Alan was a very active member of St. John the Baptist community in downtown Schenectady for many years and assisted the many pastors and parish members in its growth. You could always count on Alan to offer his expertise and guidance in liturgical celebrations. He was certainly a man of God and the world was a better place because of his presence. Rest in peace Alan.

I fondly will remember Alan at Mass, always wearing the appropriate liturgical color, and of course a big smile.

Alan your life long friendship has meant so much to me and our St. Helen´s dinner group. You were our historian sharing years of stories and memories of those who passed through the doors of St.Helen´s school. You were a treasure, whose empty seat at the dinner table will be irreplaceable.
RIP dear friend.

I am saddened to hear this. My passion for history, and patriotic love for our country was strengthened by Mr Schick's history classes at St. Helen's School, Class of 1980. May he rest in peace. Michelle Munger Isopo, MSIS Archivist and History Librarian.
