Ann McGuire Obituary

Ann Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) McGuire, 93, entered into rest peacefully, Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. Ann was born on Rugby Road in Schenectady, NY, daughter of the late John and Lucy (Kerley) Fitzgerald. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 51 years, John T. McGuire; her son, Michael A. McGuire; and her brother, John (Jack) Fitzgerald. She is survived by her son, John P. McGuire of Rotterdam, Mary Ann Colligan (Bernard) of Rochester; grandchildren, Bernard F. Colligan of Atlanta GA, Stephen D. Colligan (Yvonne) of Rochester, Michele L. Colligan of Wayland and great-grandchildren, Sean M. Colligan of Wayland and J'La Major of Rochester. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In 1942 Ann graduated from St. Columbus High School. After graduation she worked at the Maqua Company as an addressograph operator. In November of 1947 Ann married John and moved to Rotterdam where they raised three children. She worked at the Hallmark Nursing Home for four years and then took care of her mother, Lucy, until her death. She was also a Eucharistic Minister at Ellis Hospital for 20 years, an active member of the St. Gabriel's Church Woman's Club, A member of the North East Chapter of the Right to Life and a longtime volunteer at the Dominican Retreat House. After her husband retired they traveled extensively across the western US and went on a separate trip to Hawaii. They also traveled to Ireland and Rome, Italy where they had a private audience with Pope John Paul II in 1988. The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, especially 'B' Wing for the loving care they gave to our mother. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral which will begin Monday, Aug. 22, at 8 a.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY 12303 or to Dominican Retreat House, 1945 Union St., Niskayuna, NY 12309.
