Anthony Pacelli Obituary

Anthony R. Pacelli, age 90, passed away on May 6, 2016, after a brief illness. He was an educator and administrator in the New York State University System. Born in Schenectady, NY to Andreanna (DiLello) and Vincenzo, he was a lifelong resident who graduated from the former Nott Terrace High School where he was a member of the golf team. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp serving in the European Theater of Operation in WWII. Later he served with the Occupational Forces in Germany. Upon his discharge he enrolled in Syracuse University, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, a graduate degree from the State University of New York Teachers College at Oneonta and his post-graduate degree work at North Carolina University at Chapel Hill. For 36 years, Dr. Pacelli dedicated his life educating children, youth and adults. He began his career as a teacher of common branch subjects in the Schenectady Public School District (Franklin, Yates and Riverside Schools). In 1967, he joined the faculty in the Dept. of Curriculum and Instruction School of Education, State University of New York at Albany. As University Resource Specialist, he was director of Adult Basic Education Programs in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. He developed and conducted In-Service Training Institute for all Adult Basic Education Teachers and Administrators in the 50 states. He developed and designed Vocational Education Modular Programs for the New York State Department of Correctional Services for inmates seeking General Education Diplomas or learning a trade. He was consultant to the New York State Dept. of Adult and Continuing Education. In 1972, he became a member of the faculty as an Associate Professor in the School of Education at the State University of New York College of Arts and Sciences at Plattsburgh. Along with his teaching responsibilities, he was the off-campus supervisor of student teachers in the Capital District area. Upon his retirement, he became a certified golf instructor. He was the golf instructor for the Parkside YMCA, Kesselring Naval Station and the Galway Golf Course. For many years he was the secretary to the Riccitello Golf League sponsored by the Riccitello family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia (Simmons) of 66 years; his daughters, Lisa (James) Perkins of Greenwich, Lauren Hailey of Glenville and Susan (Steven) Mitchell of Ballston Lake; along with his grandchildren, Bailey (Nathan) Baker of Salem, NY, Mallory Perkins of Shushan, NY, Landon Perkins (Allison) of Greenwich, NY and Payton Mitchell of Ballston Lake; great-grandsons, Caedan James Anthony Baker and Micah Danger Baker, and great-granddaughter, Olivia Finn Baker. Anthony's family would like to give their heart felt thanks to the Visiting Nurse's Services for treating them like family; especially Sonja, Dana, Louise, Joan and Timothy. The family is forever in their debt. The family is forever grateful to the special caregivers from Home Instead who are "angels from Heaven" and include Melanie, Jerry, Stacy, Roberto, Lisa and Evangelina. Funeral services will be held at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd., Glenville on Monday, May 16 at 9:15 a.m. and be followed at 11 a.m. by interment with military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours at the funeral Home on Sunday, May 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude Science and Research Center for Children, 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
