Arthur Bianchi Obituary

Arthur A. Bianchi passed away on January 24, 2019 at the age of 97 years at Glendale Nursing Home. He was the son of Gabriel and Angela Bianchi of Montpelier, Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Edward and sister, Nerina Brignoli. In 1939 he graduated from Montpelier High School and continued on to receive a diploma from Bay Path Institute of Commerce, Springfield, MA. In 1949 he graduated from Siena College with a BBA degree. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and during World War II taught signaling at Naval Training stations at Ft. Schuyler, NY and at the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois, attaining the rank of 1st Class Signalman. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Arthur met his future wife, Lucia Favata, at the wedding of his older brother Edward to Lucia's first cousin, Fanny Palmer, in June of 1933. Lucia was 10 years old and Arthur was 12. In 1939 he came back to Schenectady to "see what she looked like". That "look" resulted in their wedding in September 1943 and a celebration of 75 years of marriage in 2018. After graduating from Siena, he took a position with Charles L. Marvin, CPA Company, received his CPA certificate, and in 1957 formed a partnership with Charles Marvin and Frederick Maune. In 1962, the partners built a new office building at 12 Jay Street, Schenectady, NY. He retired from the firm in 1975. Today the firm is known as Marvin and Company. In 1976 he was asked to take the position of assistant to the president of SOFCO, a paper and janitorial supply firm in Glenville, NY. He was no stranger to SOFCO, as he had been financial advisor to SOFCO for 25 years prior to joining the firm. He made many new friends and golf "buddies" there and then retired in June 1990. He was a member of the Mohawk Club, Edison golf Club, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, VITA, and served as treasurer and president of the Schenectady Boys Club. He was awarded many honorary acknowledgements in appreciation of his services. Arthur was a member of St. Joseph's parish in Scotia for 66 years. He and Lucia spent many pleasant years wintering in Florida and traveling. He was a kind and gentle man. He is survived by his wife, Lucia, and children, Janet (Charles) DeLella of Cincinnati OH, Mary (John Menzer) Bianchi of Glenville NY, David (Judith Punch) of Placerville CA, Paul (Lydia) of Franklin TN, Elizabeth (Brion) Gluck of LaGrange GA, Nora (Martin) Hobbs of Aptos CA, and Carolyn (Simon) Scott of Suffolk, UK and 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, including twins. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Pine Plains wing at Glendale Home, and to all the wonderful women who sat with Arthur for their dedication and kindness to him throughout the months he was there. There will be no viewing or public services. A private service for family and friends will be announced at a later date. Those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Schenectady at P.O. Box 466, Schenectady, NY 12301 (bgcschenectady.org) or to a charity of their choice. Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.
