Donald Schermerhorn Obituary

Donald F. Schermerhorn, 82, formerly of Rotterdam, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Westwood Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Born in Rotterdam, NY, he was the son of the late Simon J. and Renice (Ballou) Schermerhorn. Don graduated from Pasadena City College and North Carolina State College. During college, Don was a member of Ata Kappa NU, Tau Beta Pi and Phi Cappa Phi Societies while at NC State. Don served 20 years in the Air Force as a pilot and systems analyst. His last assignment was at the Pentagon, where he retired as a Major in 1975. He was the owner/operator of Schermerhorn Brake Distribution Conpany in Woodridge, VA retiring in 1985. Donald was a charter member of the Woodbridge Virginia Lions Club. He was also a member of the Fort Walton Beach, Florida Elks Club. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Simon J. Schermerhorn Jr. and Richard C. Schermerhorn. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Lee Peterson of Schertz, Texas and two sons, Donald F. Schermerhorn (Dutch) Jr. of Woodridge, VA and Glenn A. Schermerhorn of Stafford, VA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date in Florida. Inurnment will be in Viewland Cemetery in Rotterdam in the spring. Arrangements are by the Bond Funeral Home Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Schenectady. Online condolences can be made at www.bondfuneralhome.com .
