Edward Burke Obituary

Edward Patrick Burke Guilderland - Edward Patrick Burke, 95, formerly of Guilderland, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and loving family, on January 10, 2024 at his residence at Teresian House Nursing Home.
A native of Fall River, Massachusetts, Edward was born on April 12, 1928 to Edward Daniel Burke and Alice (Ward) Burke. As many brave young men and women of his time, Ed Burke left high school at 17 to join the United States Navy. Ed served during the second world war for two years. Following his his service he returned to high school to receive his diploma at Rogers High School in Newport, Rhode Island. Through the GI bill he enrolled in Bradford Durfee Technical Institute (now the University of Southeastern Massachusetts) and received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering.
Edward began his professional career as a textile engineer at the Roper Company in Fall River, Massachusetts. He would later serve as an industrial engineer for the US Army at the Springfield Armory, in Springfield Mass, the Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey, and retired as the Chief of Manufacturing Engineering at the Watervliet Arsenal.
Throughout his life, Ed Burke was the ultimate outdoorsman. Whether hunting rabbits with his father as a child in Westport Massachusetts, game hunting with his trusted English Springer Spaniel in New Jersey, or teaching his son and grandsons the discipline of being both a hunter and conservationist, Ed did it all. His family remembers several trips when Herb Helms flew Ed to First Lake in the Adirondack Park, where he would camp and hunt for a week in the Adirondack wilds. Many trips were spent fishing on Buzzard's Bay on his dependable trawler, Boy N' Sea. Remarkably, Ed passed his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren. Skiing, boating, and hunting were all part of family life. Ed and his wife traveled and cruised the world during Ed's 40 yearlong retirement.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ann Marie Burke; by his children, Coleen Stevens (Scott), Ellen Burke, and Thomas Burke (Kathalina). He is also survived by five grandchildren; Greg Stevens (Lindsey), Todd Stevens (Taylor) and Dan Stevens (Erin), Campbell Cahill, and Patrick Burke. In addition, Ed leaves behind his great grandchildren Calvin and Claire Stevens.
Edward's family would like to thank the medical and patient care staff at the Teresian House Nursing Home for expert and compassionate care.
Edward's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, January 16, 2024 in Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave. Guilderland. Relatives and friends are invited and may also visit with his family on Monday, January 15th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home 5216 Western Turnpike, Guilderland. Interment will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in The Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that one might consider a donation to the Teresian House Foundation, 200 Washington Avenue Extension, Albany NY 12203, or the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership
