FRANCES PLASTER Obituary

Frances Allen Plaster, 87, of Guy Park Avenue, passed away early Sunday, at St. Mary's Hospital, with her son at her side. Born in Hillsboro, Texas, on Oct. 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late S. John Newton Allen and Zella Irene Arnold Allen. She lived in Stag Creek Community in Comanche County, Texas. Frances graduated as valedictorian from the Sidney High School and attended Howard Payne College and Brownwood Business School, both in Brownwood Texas. She moved to California and joined the World War II war effort in aircraft manufacturing, then in civil service in Hawaii where she met Harlan Plaster, lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps. Aboard a Navy ship, Frances decoded and sent out the message to the Pacific Fleet that the Japanese had surrendered. While still in the Army, they married on April 13, 1946. She was an active and beloved member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, including Confirmation classes. She was a member of the Altar Guild, the Christian Women's Circle, and at one time was a representative of the State Assembly. Frances was an avid bridge player. Her husband predeceased her on Oct. 31, 2000. Her loving family includes her son, Glenn Allen Plaster and his fiancee, Holly Caroline Philpott of Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Doris Wyatt of Houston, TX, and Ruth McCracken of Montgomery, TX; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Basil Allen; and sister, Kathryn Merzbacher. A service to celebrate her life will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 40 Guy Park Avenue. Pastor William T. Hodgetts, Jr. will preside. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends after 1 p.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity E.L. Church, or the Stag Creek Cemetery in Texas, in care of the funeral home office. Her family has entrusted her arrangements to the care of Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Please visit her guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com.
