James "Jimmy" Dunbar Obituary

James "Jimmy" Edward Dunbar Schenectady - His earthly journey ended on July 16, 2024 while surrounded by love and light and laughter.
Born August 31, 1948 to Arthur and Sophie Kacinski Dunbar. Jimmy was the youngest of 6 children. He graduated in 1967 from Scotia Glenville High School. He was drafted by the US Army December 4, 1969.
He served honorably as a tank commander in the 3rd Armor Division while stationed in Baumholder Germany.
He is survived by the love of his life, Marilyn, whom he married September 6, 1980. Surviving him also are his 3 daughters, Brenda Friesen of Florida, Kelly Jankowski(Kriss) of Glenville, and Lila Miles(Dave) of Scotia. Two granddaughters, Kayleigh Timpanaro(Blaise) of Mechanicville, and Morgan Jankowski of Glenville. Three great grandchildren, Gracelyn and Allton Timpanaro of Mechanicville and their little sister or brother who is expected any day. Jim is also survived by siblings, Helen Greenwood of Glenville, Arthur Dunbar(Shirley) of Georgia, John Dunbar(Barb) of Clifton Park, Walter Dunbar(Jackie) of Glenville. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, step father James Strait, as well as his sister Pauline Allen, brothers in law William Greenwood and Richard Allen, and his sister in law Diane Dunbar.
Jimmy/Dad/Papa had a great love for his wife, girls, and grandchildren. He was a hard and respected worker, having worked in the linen industry for over 40 years beginning with Service Linen and retiring from Scotia Linen. He loved this country and enjoyed blaring Toby Keith "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" but also thoroughly enjoyed having a crush on Reba McEntire.
Prior to Alzheimers, Dementia, and Parkinson's grip, Dad enjoyed many years camping and helping to instill that love in his first granddaughter. The memories made were priceless. Dad was the most selfless man. He spent his vacation time nearly every summer, driving to Montana so that his wife and girls could visit with Marilyn's parents.
The family would like to thank those who took the time to visit with him, call to check on him, and tell him they love him. We would like to thank his nephew-Michael Greenwood, and his family, for always being a call away to help, and also his brother, John, for the countless visits in the time since Hospice was brought in.
One final message- If you start to notice memory issues, balance issues, etc, please seek help for your loved ones.
The family asks that donations be made in his name to Community Hospice of Amsterdam. Thank you Jenny, Trish, Jared, Julie, Jennifer, Gretchen, Chuck, Sue and Belinda.
Visitation will take place Friday, July 19th at 9 a.m. with funeral and military honors following. Friends and family may call at Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, 1 Mohawk Ave, Scotia, NY 12302.

I knew Jim all thru hi school and our paths would cross as l also worked in the linen industry at American Coat and Apron. Later l worked for Service Liquor who was co-owned by the Service Linen owner. Later on, his dad broke me in at United Bakery. Seems like our paths crossed quite a bit. He was a very nice man and I'm sorry for your loss.

Dad, thank you so much for raising me to be who I am. You instilled in me that honesty and integrity will get you further in life than anything, and to stand up for myself and those who can´t defend themselves. I know you are proud of your youngest daughter. Thank you for trusting me to help care for you. It was my honor and privilege. See you later Alligator.
