JAMES STEKEUR Obituary

James C. Stekeur Sr., 75, of Schenectady, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 4, 2010 in Florida, where he spent his winters. Born in Albany, Jim was the son of the late William and Lillian Thorne Stekeur. He was the best friend and beloved husband of Wilma Mathias Stekeur, to whom he was happily married for 53 years. Jim graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and was the owner of S&S Waste Service, which he started with his brother in 1959 and ran for 38 years. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, wandering flea markets, and especially spending time with his family and friends. He treasured the time that he spent helping in the family trash businesses in any way that he could. Jim is the loving father of Sandra DeLorenzo (Pat) of Guilderland, James (Jimmer) Stekeur Jr. (Sylvia) of Burnt Hills, Susan Wright (Jerry) of Slingerlands, and Joyce Weldon of Schenectady; cherished grandfather of Kyle, Eric, and Courtney DeLorenzo; Christopher, Craig, and Caitlyn Stekeur; and Lea and Abbi Wright. Funeral services will be held Thursday morning December 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Bond Funeral Home, Broadway & Guilderland Ave., Schenectady, NY. A visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment in Viewland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12309. Online condolences at www.bondfuneralhome.com

I'm sure you and my parents are playing canasta and having coffee. Thank you for being such a good friend to my parents. You are missed by everyone

To the entire Stekeur family especially Wilma.
I thank God every day for Jim and Wilma. My parents could not have had better friends. The only thing that helps my heart is that I know Jim is up there with my parents playing canasta and having a good cup of coffee. Jim was the nicest guy and the best friend anyone could hope to have. Rest-in-Peace Jim. You are missed.
Love Sue

Mrs. Stekeur and family, I'm sorry for your loss. I always had great admiration for Mr. Stekeur. I'll always remember him trying to beat me in a one on one hoop match in Wells. He had a great shot if you left him open. It was a pleasure to have known him. I'm really sorry. Giovanni (POSS).

Wilma & Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. My Dad, Sal, really enjoyed the vacations and other activities that you both shared with him and Carol. We will never forget when Jim walked into the hosptial to see my Dad, how happy he was to see his friend, Jim. May they be happy together in heaven and always watching over their families.
