Jonathan Farkas Obituary

Jonathan Hatheway Farkas Schenectady - Jonathan Hatheway Farkas, 29, passed away on April 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a heroic battle with Adrenocortical Carcinoma Cancer (ACC).
He was born on December 6, 1994, in Schenectady, New York with a head of bright red hair that was only matched by his sharp wit, and infectious sense of humor.
Jon graduated from Schenectady High School in 2013 before attending Herkimer & Schenectady County Community Colleges where he studied music, before landing a job at the NYS Board of Elections. A self-taught musician, he played the drums, keyboard, bass, saxophone, and tuba but ultimately loved mixing his own music. Jon's love of music spanned multiple genres, with his favorite artists including Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Funkadelic, Bee Gees, and Kendrick Lamar.
A true polymath, and formidable trivia player, Jon was brilliant and curious and would shame any historian on his vast knowledge of ancient history, from Rome, Mesopotamia, and Egypt to his interest in the ancient Eastern Iranic equestrian nomadic, Scythians. He enjoyed studying ancient civilizations and religion and having discussions about the Bible with his beloved Grandmother when they weren't busy watching UFC fights.
An animal lover, Jon loved cats and tigers, but his favorite was the forest giraffe, Okapi. He also loved Star Wars, The Sopranos, and Breaking Bad, and got a kick out of comedians Dave Chapelle and Joe Rogan. Jon spent hours in the virtual Middle Ages expanding his dynasty in the Crusader Kings III video game.
Jon is predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John D. Hatheway, and his paternal grandparents, Jaquelin & Morris Farkas. He is survived by his father and mother, Gary and Linda Farkas, his sister, Laura Farkas, maternal grandmother, Kathleen Hatheway, several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ellis Roswell Park especially, Dr. Tallat Mahmood, Alyssa Aragosa, and her fantastic staff, especially Brianna Wells & Donna Gold.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated, Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Schenectady. Burial will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, following the mass. Calling hours will be Friday, April 26, from 3:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the Gleason Funeral Home.
In place of flowers, a gofundme campaign has been established (www.gofundme.com/Jonathan-Farkas ) to support ACC research and assist patients suffering from rare cancers at Ellis Hospital in memory of Jonathan Farkas.

Hi, Gary ---- Kevin, Bill, and Ken sent me the news re the loss of your son. I can't even imagine what you are going through, but I am sorry to hear of your loss! Jonathan sounds like a great kid that the world needed to have around a LOT longer than he was here. Hang in there, and best wishes to you and your family.

I was shocked and saddened to see Jonathan's photo in yesterday's obituary page. In 2014, I had the privilege of having Jonathan in my Piano Class at SCCC School of Music. He was very special, along with being a straight "A" student. This is the ultimate loss in a parents life. Many prayers are going your way.
