Marjorie Shaw Obituary

Marjorie "Marge" Ann (Johnson) Shaw, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Saratoga Hospital, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was also loved and known to many as "Grandma Shaw". Marge was born on September 20, 1932 in Schenectady, the daughter of Clyde and Mae (Clark) Johnson. She was a 1950 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, where she was a member of several interscholastic sports teams. She was also a proud alumnus of Howe & Oneida Elementary Schools, and reminisced with many former alumni over this. Marge attended Keuka College and Franklin School of the Arts, where she graduated in 1952 with a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Marge was employed over the years as a Medical Laboratory Technician at several medical facilities including; St. Clare's Hospital, Samaritan Hospital, Benedict Memorial Hospital, Dr. Moraveck's office, Saratoga County Laboratory and Saratoga Hospital, where she was Employee of the Month in March of 1994. Her volunteer spirit will be remembered by all for her many hours of selfless giving. Some of the many organizations she was actively involved in are, Malta Ridge Fire Auxiliary, Special Olympics, 4-H, Korean War Vets, Dunning Street Cemetery, Malta Seniors, Malta Presbyterian Church, White's Beach Speedway, and Clover Patch Camp. She was also a long time Board Member and officer for Saratoga Bridges. Marge was a member of the Ballston Center Associate Reformed Church, where she was actively involved with VBS, choir, Shoebox Project, Clothing Drive and playing the piano. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, William, in May of this year; son, Timothy; and her parents. Marjorie is survived by her beloved children, Kathy Shaw (Dan Rossignol) of Malta, Wendy Elliott (Robert) of Newfield, ME, Robin Reardon (Peter) of Newcomb, Peter Shaw (Kristin) and Stephen Shaw, all of Malta; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Kelin (Daniel) of Springfield, VT; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 24 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25 in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Duell Road, Schuylerville. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Ballston Center Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 58 Charlton Road, Ballston Spa. All our invited to a luncheon at the church following the service. Memorial contributions in memory of Marjorie may be made to Saratoga Bridges, 18 Saratoga Blvd., Malta, NY 12020 or the Malta Ridge Fire Auxiliary, 5 Hearn Road, Malta, NY 12020. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Saratoga Hospital, with special thanks to Dr. Leibers of Saratoga Oncology/Hematology for their exceptional care. I am so very glad that we had the opportunity to know Marge and be her neighbor for 10 years. She was a second mom to me when we lived there. She will be missed by everyone. Marge was a very special lady. My prayers are with all of you.

We are deeply saddened by the news of our cousin Marjorie's death. She will be remembered for her calm, sweet disposition and her devotion to family and community.
