Michael Funk Obituary

Michael E. Funk, 72, of Ecker Hollow Road, passed away Sunday morning, December 11th at his home under the loving care of his family and hospice. Michael was born October 22, 1944 in Cobleskill, NY, a son of Carl and Loraine (Oliver) Funk. He attended Schoharie High School and later, enlisted in the US Navy where he served aboard the USS Mount McKinley as a Gunner's Mate, 3rd class during the Viet Nam war. Upon his honorable discharge in 1966, Mike returned to his native Schoharie County and began working for the General Electric Company in Schenectady. He followed the spin-off of the Phillips Co., Intermagnetics, and finally Super Power from which he retired in 2011. Mike enjoyed hunting with his brother, Richard and his nephew Richard, Jr., and went on several hunting trips to Colorado and Montana with them and other family and friends including his best friend, Chauncey Wainwright. He also cherished his walks with his faithful dog Rebel and watching baseball and music TV shows with his wife and faithful friend of 49 years, Ruth. Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Hotaling) Funk, whom he married July 28, 1967; his daughter, Becky Funk; his step-children, Edwina Molazon, Roberta Hamel, Holly Wright and Weskey Hamel; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Richard (Donna) Funk of Delanson and Ronald Funk of Schoharie; his sister, Carleen (Leonard) Stimpson of Otego; along with several nieces and nephews. As per Michaels' wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal service. For those who wish to remember Michael in a special way, memorial contributions may be made in memory of him to Catskill Area Hospice, 325 Granite Dr. Suite#1, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
