Patricia McLean Obituary

Patricia G. McLean AlbanyPatricia Galivan McLean, 80, passed away peacefully, Monday, June 2, 2014, with her family by her side. She was the daughter of the late John (Jack) Galivan and Mary Sullivan Galivan of Albany, NY. She was born in Albany and attended Vincentian High School, graduating in 1952. She worked for the NYS Tax Department and the NYS Labor Department, and in 1956, after marrying, she worked as the advertising editor for Scholastic Magazines from 1956-1958. Pat's early experiences launched a lifelong dedication to helping women achieve equity in the workplace. She became the driving force behind the opening of the Albany Displaced Homemaker Program, now WERC, and served as its executive director for more than 10years. The program celebrated 25 years in 2013. Pat also served on the Board of the Schenectady YWCA, including as chairwoman and she coauthored a visitors guide for Albany which sold for several years at the NYS Museum. She is survived by her son, Craig S. McLean, of Saratoga, and her daughter, Shaun S. McLean, of West Springfield, MA and her former husband, James M. McLean, of Albany. She will also be especially missed by her granddaughters, Rose M. Pitkin and Annie M. Pitkin, of West Springfield, and her nephew, Brendan Galivan, and Corinne Fitzgerald and her niece, Carol McLean. Pat has joined her deceased brother, John Galivan, of Newport, RI, and some of her very favorite dogs. There will be many nieces and nephews who feel her loss. Pat's love for art, theater and literature led her to pursue many interests with her beloved friends, who will also deeply feel her loss. Many will read this and recall her unexpected remarks, wry wit and tart insights that were often reduced to a single sarcastic comedic clause. Pat would have loved to live longer and to continue these wonderful times. With a glass of scotch, please toast Pat's love of life, family, and friends tonight. On June 21, 2014, at 4 p.m., please join friends and family in a celebration of Pat's life at the Albany Alumni House, 1400 Washington Avenue, Albany, NY 12222; http://www.albany.edu/alumni/directions.php. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Woofs for Warriors, http://www.mmvf.org/Donate]Sponsors.html; MMVF, c/o Paul Dubois, 119 Second Avenue East, P.O. Box 137, Tribes Hill, NY 12177.

To Pat's family,
I've so often enjoyed hearing of her contributions to so many women from my sister, whose life she touched as well. Her dedication to people and animals is an inspiration to me.

To Pat's family

She sure left her mark with anyone she permitted to be her friend and even though I knew her such a short time I felt honored to be a friend and will miss her. Ellen Gelb

Aunt Pat, "Spooky" Pat, as my son called you. You are greatly missed. The best Aunt ever.
